Title Graduate Assistant - Athletics and Recreation, Academic Support and Leadership Position Description
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
Overview
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Athletics for Academic Support and Compliance, responsible for providing academic support and guidance to at-risk student-athletes as well as assisting in the development and implementation of student-athlete leadership programs.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one academic support for at-risk student-athletes
- Communicate with head coaches regarding academics, workshop development and leadership programming for student-athletes
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of the Student-Athlete Freshman Workshop and Bear Up! Sophomore leadership programs.
- In collaboration with the Office of Career Services, coordinate and implement the Career Bear Workshop series for Junior and Senior Student-athletes
- Coordinate the Student-Athlete Peer Mentor program.
- Assist in NCAA Compliance efforts as needed
- Communicate and cooperate effectively with Athletic Department staff, University employees and students to accomplish the mission of the Department and University.
- Assist the Office of Equal Opportunity /Title IX Coordinator office as a responsible employee with regard to incidents of sexual or gender-based harm or discrimination.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Admission into one of the graduate program's at Bridgewater State University
- Effective writing and communication skills, including social media
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various constituents and stakeholders to make an impact as a member of a team and diverse community
- Ability to work evening, weekends, and/or holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a collegiate student-athlete
- Engagement in leadership-based programming
- Leadership experience in athletics, club, organizational, academic or committee opportunities

- Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds with appropriate accommodation
