Other Conditions: To begin approximately June 2026. Renewal dependent upon satisfactory performance, program needs, and/or availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as editorial point person for academic journal on the journals public email account, answering questions and corresponding with authors and editorial team.
Serves as editorial point person for the journals online submission and peer-review system by maintaining the system, producing reports, and making configuration changes as instructed by the Editor.
Troubleshoots submission issues with authors, editors, and peer-reviewers. Communicates with UH Press staff as necessary regarding system errors or bugs.
Collaborates with the journal Editor is soliciting book reviewers and reviewing and editing submitted book reviews.
Maintains book review database and makes updates as required.
Reviews copyedits and proofs of each article and journal issue. Provides feedback and corrections to compositor.
Assists Editor with the transfer to publisher of all final revised and copy-edited files to be included in each issue.
Minimum Qualifications:
Full time classified graduate student in English, Social Sciences, Ethnic Studies, STEM, or related discipline in a Masters or Ph.D. program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
One year editorial experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong organizational skills.
Experience working with databases and proficient with basic Microsoft office software.
Must meet University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Office of Graduate Education Graduate Assistant eligibility requirements.
Ability to travel independently in a timely and efficient manner to various locations, including UH Press Office and Manoa campus.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge or interest in Chinese studies.
Experience working in academic publishing.
Experience working with a manuscript submission management system.
