Chatham County Schools Job DescriptionGlobal Student Support Center Parent LiaisonThe Parent Liaison serves toEnhance communication and understanding between families who speak another language other than English the school and the districtClarify and expand information to families who speak another language other than English regarding school andor district expectationsAssist with families’ requests andor concernsAssist families with district student enrollment and screening for EL servicesInteract with and support schools throughout the Chatham County School system in compliance with Title III as indicated by the Title IIIEL Program Facilitator.QualificationsHold a high school diploma two years of college level education preferred.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents schools community and district office personnel in both Spanish and EnglishDemonstrate the ability to fluently speak read and write in the second language predominant in the communityProvide evidence of successful experiences in working with parentsfamilies and community membersDemonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents teachers students administrators community leaders agency representatives and othersDemonstrate the ability and organizational skills needed to develop and compile an assortment of records reports and presentations using a variety of technology skills.Essential FunctionsAssist families who speak another language other than English in locating community resources for the purpose of promoting parent effectiveness and student achievementAssist families with student enrollmentScreen students for EL servicesAssist with the organization and implementation of events and activities for the purpose of enhancing parent involvementConvey parents’ questions and concerns to appropriate schooldistrict staff for the purpose of supporting student success and further facilitate communication with parentsOrganize student compliance folders provide required information to accountability and assist with additional office needs such as compiling of compliance evidence and providing required information to accountability.Provide interpretation and translation services as requested following the guidelines of Federal Programs.Other FunctionsCollaborate with other personnel to identify EL parents’ issues and concerns.Participate in required in-service activities for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing work related skills.KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES{C}1.Considerable knowledge of both the Spanish and English languages.{C}2.Skill in translating spoken words from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English at a normal speaking rate.{C}3.Ability to translate verbal messages to written documents and written documents to verbal messages in both Spanish and English.{C}4.Ability to adapt language based on the level of the student and parent.{C}5.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.MINIMUM STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIESPhysical RequirementsMust be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.
