Description

This is an entry-level technical, semi-skilled, and labor-intensive position. The role of this position is essential in our organizations geospatial data management by focusing on office duties that leverage GIS, CAD, and data information systems, with a primary emphasis on electrical facilities documentation in the field. This role involves physically visiting sites to record detailed information on electrical infrastructure, including poles, lines, substations, and other utility assets. The objective is to ensure accurate mapping and analysis for utility management, planning, and operational efficiency.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. GIS Field Data Collection:Execute field data collection activities utilizing GPS devices, survey equipment, and specialized field data collection tools.

  2. Data Integration: Assist in integrating field-collected data into GIS databases, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established standards.

  3. CAD Systems Operation: Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems to support mapping and spatial analysis tasks, collaborating with other team members to enhance overall project efficiency.

  4. Mapping and Cartography: Contribute to the creation and updating of maps using GIS software, ensuring the effective representation of spatial data for internal and external stakeholders.

  5. Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance checks on Electric facilities to identify and rectify discrepancies, ensuring the reliability and precision of the information.

  6. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of GIS-related activities, including data collection methodologies, mapping processes, and any issues encountered during fieldwork.

  7. City Vehicle Operation: Drive a city vehicle to project sites, ensuring safe and efficient transportation while continuously getting in and out of the vehicle for fieldwork activities.

  8. Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by effectively communicating with the public, colleagues, and clients during fieldwork or in office settings. Address inquiries, provide information about GIS projects, and ensure a positive interaction with all stakeholders.

  9. Collaboration: Work closely with GIS team members and other relevant divisions/departments to facilitate seamless communication and coordination, contributing to the success of overall GIS projects.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School graduate or GED required.

Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) in cartography, computer science, or related field, or certificate in Geographic Information Systems is preferred.

Two years practical experience with AutoCAD or GIS is preferred.

Course work in engineering, CAD (computer aided design), GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and a strong knowledge of computers is highly desirable.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Operators Drivers License with an acceptable driving record.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The employee must, within of year of date of hire or promotion to this position, reside within 45 minutes of the assigned work facility.

Retirement Plan

All contributions to the 401a Defined contribution plan are pre-tax and earnings grow tax-deferred. The City contributes 8% and employees contribute 3%. City contributions are 100% vested after one year of employment. You will be enrolled automatically and should take time to review your investment options at your earliest convenience.

Training Programs

The City is committed to provide training programs for all departments and all positions. Risk Management conducts classes in Defensive Driving, Safety, and Insurance. With rare exceptions, classes are offered during working hours, and are open to all eligible employees.
