This position is non-exempt and involves performing technical duties related to the maintenance and support of the Geographic Information System (GIS). You will assist with creating, editing, updating, and maintaining parcel maps, spatial data, and related GIS databases using deeds, legal descriptions, aerial imagery, and other records associated with the (CAMA) system. The work is performed under direct to general supervision, with limited to moderate latitude for independent judgment and initiative. The role typically involves processing clearly defined assignments and assisting higher-level GIS staff with mapping projects and database maintenance activities.

  • Assist with maintaining and updating GIS parcel maps, layers, and associated databases
  • Review deeds, plats, aerial imagery, legal descriptions, and related documentation to support GIS updates and parcel maintenance
  • Perform routine GIS edits and updates to ensure mapping accuracy and consistency
  • Assist with data entry, quality control reviews, and verification of GIS information
  • Generate maps, reports, and related materials for internal departments and external requests
  • Support GIS analysis and research activities under the direction of higher-level GIS staff
  • Assist with troubleshooting GIS-related issues and maintaining mapping records
  • Utilize GIS software, databases, and mapping applications to support departmental operations
  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to GIS projects and updates
  • Perform other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this position, an individual would have a combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience equivalent to what is described below.

  • High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience working with GIS, mapping systems, drafting, data management, or related technical work; OR associate degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience as listed above; OR bachelor’s degree in a related field.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.

Special Qualifications

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations
  • Other knowledge, skills, abilities, and credentials required for a specific position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of GIS principles, mapping systems, and spatial databases
  • Basic knowledge of computerized cartographic and mapping software
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department or organization-specific software, and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of specialized GIS software
  • Skill in operating computers and related peripheral equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, aerial photographs, deeds, plats, and legal descriptions
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and perform detailed technical work
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Ability to correctly interpret and apply applicable policies and procedures
