PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Serves a dual role as head coach and as administrator of the athletic program at the high school. Tasks Include complete responsibility for the total athletic program in terms of coaching and staff organization in conjunction with the Principals and Athletic Director. Also includes the coordination of the middle school programs with the Athletic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Master's degree from an accredited university, preferred
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of core academic subjects assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
- Experience as Head Coach, preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Organizes, directs, and administers the overall Athletic program
- Develops, in conjunction with the coaching staff and Athletic Director, all fundamentals and skills required to be a competitive Athletic program
- Coordinates, directs, and monitors the overall day-to-day operation of the football team and coaching staff
- Manages and supervises athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship
- Responsible for the total athletic program in terms of coaching and staff organization in conjunction with the Principals and Athletic Director
- Encourages, by example and thorough instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation
- Responsible for adding to the total educational experience through athletics by providing a safe and wholesome environment for each student athlete
- Assists the Athletic Director in developing goals and objectives for the District Athletic Program
- Evaluates all high school coaches and middle school coordinators as to their effectiveness by March 1st of each year
- Assists the Athletic Director in the scheduling of athletic events
- Maintains a complete inventory of all equipment, properties, and fixtures of the high school athletic program
- Recommends the purchase and evaluation of all sports-related equipment to the Athletic Director
- Responsible for the care and security of athletic equipment at the high school
- Develops and clearly defines, in written form, the job and responsibilities of each coaching position within the staff
- Supervises and administers events as scheduled
- Provides necessary information to the Athletic Director in preparation of annual budget
- Assists the Athletic Director and Middle School Principals in the development of the middle school athletic programs
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of all University Interscholastic League, Texas Education Agency, and District regulations governing athletics
- Inform staff members and coaches of rules and changes regarding U.I.L. rules in all sports
- Coordinates and assigns personnel and workout time periods for the weight and exercise room and orders weight room equipment
- Organizes any summer camp activities scheduled on campus
- Provides leadership in the development and compliance of ethical conduct as presented in the Texas High School Coaches Association Code of Ethics
- Monitors the middle school coaches through the Middle School Head Coach
- Maintains a keen sense for developing an overall quality program with sensitivity to all programs
- Assists the Athletic Director in the recruitment and hiring of coaching personnel
- Works with the Principals to ensure the Athletic Booster Club activities adhere to District and U.I.L. rules
- Works effectively with students, parents, teachers, and Booster Clubs to promote the Athletic Programs in a positive manner
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the performance of assigned coaching staff.
