This full-time position supports the clinical operations for the Hayward Genetics Center in compliance with the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, as well as applicable federal, state, and institutional ordinances. Primary responsibilities include specimen receiving, accessioning, and clinical laboratory results reporting. Under general supervision, the employee also maintains quality control, maintenance, preanalytical and postanalytical clinical laboratory event records; liaises with the Office of Health and Safety (OEHS) as the departmental health and safety representative; assists in record retention and archiving of clinical laboratory reports, and facilitates customer service relationships regarding specimen handling and laboratory reporting with clinical partners. The position works with colleagues to increase productivity and maintain service in the laboratory and analysis sections, adheres to laboratory policies for safety, conduct, and performance; and participates in continuing education.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • LA State licensed or eligible (Laboratory Assistant licensure or higher)
  • One year of laboratory, healthcare, data entry/clerical, logistics, or customer service experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Business, or equivalent degree
  • Sample processing and reporting experience
  • Basic knowledge of general laboratory and bloodborne pathogens safety practices
  • Basic knowledge of HIPAA requirements
  • Previous experience with database entries or laboratory information systems
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory or clinical documentation and maintenance
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures including specimen handling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and independently manage daily workflow and tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to accurately record data
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle restricted or sensitive information
  • General understanding of record keeping and maintenance
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent word processing and spreadsheet software
