Overview:
Description:
Provide professional genetic counseling services in a specialized division of pediatric medical genetics in both inpatient
and outpatient settings.
Responsibilities:
Job Requirement:
Assist Geneticist in obtaining personal & family medical histories, creating and analyzing pedigrees, and determining
if genetic testing is appropriate.
Provide counseling to patient and family members by providing information and psychosocial support.
Discuss testing options and associated risks, benefits and limitations with patients and families to assist them in making
informed decisions.
Coordinate genetic testing send-outs, interpret laboratory results and communicate findings to patients or physicians.
Determine or coordinate treatment plans by requesting laboratory services, reviewing genetics or counseling
literature, and considering histories or diagnostic data.
Write detailed consultation reports to provide information on complex genetic concepts to patients or referring physicians.
Work with multidisciplinary staff to coordinate appointments, referrals, and collection of appropriate records.
Provide inpatient consultations, interactions with attending physicians, patients, resident, medical students and other
medical personnel.
May assist with the Newborn Screening program at Wolfson Children's Hospital in conjunction with Geneticists for both
metabolic and cystic fibrosis screens. Responsible for contacting families and their physicians with abnormal NBS
results, arranging for diagnostic studies, and provide genetic counseling.

2 years Professional genetic counseling experience preferred
Education:
Master's Science - Genetic Counseling required
Additional Details:
Or related field from a program accredited by a national certification board for medical genetic personnel
