HOURLY RATE: $48.91
 
POSITION SUMMARY:  
The General Supervisor is a member of the production management team responsible for strategic mechanical outfitting activities. This position directs activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule within safety, quality, and cost objectives being managed appropriately.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently pursues the implementation of a safety culture that values all direct and indirect reports to always work safely along with looking out for others around them to do the same.
  • Lead, guide, and direct all direct reports in developing and maintaining characteristics consistent with the concepts of continuous improvement.
  • Assist other staff members in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Monitors and reports on production status as well as assisting with the development and management of production schedules.
  • Coordinate efforts to maintain flow by working with Logistics, Material Handling, QA, and Engineering. Also work with these groups and follow through to ensure effective countermeasures are being established when problems occur.
  • Act as liaison between subordinate levels and senior management to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies, and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
  • Establish and communicate performance expectations and take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate. 
  • Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of policies with regards to safety, continuous improvement strategies, production standards, manufacturing techniques, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls, and overall production performance.
  • Initiate and coordinate special projects as needed. (i.e. facility changes, installation of capital equipment.)
 
JOB SCOPE
This position has mid-level accountability for the safe practices of the supervisory staff, production timelines, as well as the safe and effective management of certain capital assets. This position maintains a mid-level of decision-making authority and responsibility for end results in the specific area of responsibility that is outfitting. 
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 
Directly manage and lead certain members of the supervisory team. This position maintains mid-level responsibility for up to 35+ production employees through their Supervisor. 
 
INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: 
This position maintains a variety of significant relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the company and with external contacts is essential in this role.  The ability to professionally and effectively communicate in a manner that is articulate and represents the company’s values is critical.
 
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  
  • Ability to recognize and resolve unsafe working conditions.
  • A thorough understanding of the materials, equipment, documentation, and processes.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to achieve results by managing and positively influencing others through the implementation and disciplined management of Lean Production and Six Sigma principles.
  • The ability to think strategically while scheduling activities, resolving problems, performing root-cause analysis, and measuring performance.    
  • Knowledge of regulations and rules in a manner that affects the process of manufacturing positively.
  • Ability to set, communicate and track progress towards goals and milestones and effectively hold direct reports accountable to predetermined performance metrics.
  • Computer Skills – Good Understanding of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project. 
 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  
  • Minimum five (5) years of managerial experience is preferred. 
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in marine supervisory roles or equivalent. 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced shop with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity within the shop by or in the yard. The person will be required to be in production areas. Must be able to walk to and from job locations. The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders, enter confined areas and tanks. The person must be able to frequently bend, twist, kneel, walk, climb and reach. May be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work.  There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice. 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While in production areas the individual will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors.
 
CITIZENSHIP: Pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship.
