Position Summary

The General Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the manufacturing operation, with full accountability for profitability, operational execution, product performance, and organizational effectiveness.

This role leads all major business functions—including Engineering, Production, Quality, Service, Warranty, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, and Human Resources—ensuring alignment from product design through production and into aftermarket support.

The GM serves as the senior on-site leader, responsible for delivering financial results, meeting customer commitments, and building a high-performing organization.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Direct all manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production output
  • Establish and enforce performance standards for throughput, efficiency, and on-time delivery
  • Drive execution through structured operating rhythms including KPI reviews and escalation processes
  • Remove operational bottlenecks and ensure alignment between production, materials, and demand
  • Hold leaders accountable for meeting production commitments and performance targets
Engineering Leadership
  • Own overall engineering performance, including design quality, release timing, and production readiness
  • Ensure engineering deliverables support manufacturability, quality, and schedule adherence
  • Drive accountability for engineering accuracy, change control, and bill-of-material integrity
  • Align engineering priorities with production needs and customer commitments
  • Ensure timely resolution of engineering-related production disruptions
  • Lead continuous improvement of design standards to reduce cost, complexity, and errors
Financial Management (P&L Ownership)
  • Own full profit and loss performance, including revenue, margins, and operating expenses
  • Develop budgets and forecasts and adjust based on business performance
  • Drive disciplined cost management across labor, materials, and overhead
  • Ensure capital investments deliver expected returns
  • Connect operational performance directly to financial outcomes

Sales & Customer Performance

  • Oversee revenue performance, order intake, and backlog health
  • Ensure customer commitments are realistic and aligned with operational capacity
  • Monitor pricing, margins, and deal structure
  • Support key customer relationships and intervene on critical issues
  • Ensure alignment between Sales, Engineering, and Operations
Supply Chain & Purchasing
  • Own material availability, supplier performance, and sourcing strategy
  • Ensure purchasing execution supports production schedules and business demand
  • Drive supplier accountability for cost, quality, and delivery performance
  • Reduce supply chain risk and ensure continuity of operations
  • Optimize inventory levels and working capital
Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Establish and enforce quality standards across engineering, production, and service
  • Drive accountability for defect reduction, rework, and warranty performance
  • Ensure rigorous root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and cost
  • Promote ownership of quality at every level of the organization
Service & Warranty Operations
  • Own overall service and warranty performance, including cost, turnaround time, and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure warranty issues are properly tracked, analyzed, and fed back into engineering and production
  • Drive reduction in warranty expense through root cause elimination and process improvement
  • Establish accountability for service response times and resolution effectiveness
  • Ensure alignment between field issues and internal corrective actions across engineering and manufacturing
  • Oversee service network performance and ensure consistent customer experience

Human Resources & Organizational Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing organization aligned to business objectives
  • Establish clear accountability, performance expectations, and measurable goals
  • Oversee hiring, workforce planning, and leadership development
  • Address performance issues promptly and decisively
  • Ensure compliance with all labor laws, policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker for employee benefits programs, including plan design, cost structure, and vendor selection
  • Exercise strong fiduciary responsibility in benefits oversight, acting in the best financial and ethical interests of both the business and employees
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
  • Lead a culture where safety is a core operational expectation
  • Hold leadership accountable for incident prevention and corrective actions
  • Ensure audits, training, and compliance activities are completed and effective
Strategic Leadership
  • Translate company strategy into executable operational plans
  • Identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and competitive advantage
  • Drive cross-functional alignment and eliminate silos between departments
  • Make final decisions on trade-offs between cost, quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction
  • Build long-term operational capability and scalability
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, or 10+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial operations
  • Proven experience managing full P&L and cross-functional teams
  • Strong background in engineering, operations, and business leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to drive performance in complex, fast-paced environments

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is in an office/general shop and sometimes outside, and it has access to all welfare facilities. In some cases, the temperature can be warmer or colder depending on the season. Most of the hazards come from machines but following proper procedures should minimize risk. This position will be exposed to the elements and will have to prepare themselves with the right equipment to ensure safety.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires sitting, standing and walking for the majority of the shift. During shifts, some projects require the use of feet, hands, and fingers for over 60 minutes at a time. Depending on the season, different protective apparel will be required. The use of knees, legs, back, shoulders, and arms can vary from 15 minutes to 60 minutes. This position requires reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling to complete job tasks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus, and good depth perception. All positions require the ability to lift 50 pounds.
