Primary Purpose Perform general maintenance and repair or construction of building structures and their mechanical electrical and sanitary systems throughout district. Assist with maintenance of grounds, vehicles, systems, and special events assigned.

Qualifications Education Certification Valid Texas drivers license

Special Knowledge Skills Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures. Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to operate hand and power tools. Demonstrated ability to operate portable welder. Ability to work independently.

Experience One year experience in Operations Primary Skill Area.

General Requirements and Information

  1. Follow all instructions given by Director of Operations or other Administration.
  2. Report to work on time and in condition to complete all tasks safely and as directed.
  3. Employees suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol may be required to take a drug or alcohol test immediately as directed by administration.
  4. Follow all safety instructions as listed on or trained for concerning any substance or object used in the workplace.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Maintenance and Repair

  1. Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including:

    • Repairing woodwork
    • Replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors
    • Painting
    • Repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems
    • Any other task as skills are learned by the Director of Operations or assigned supervisor.
  2. Skills and certifications that are issued through the appropriate governing agency or approved by the Director of Operations should be applied as assigned for the good of the school district. These skills or certifications should include but are not limited to:

    • Pest control
    • Grounds maintenance
    • Bus or passenger vehicle maintenance
    • HVAC repair and maintenance
    • Electrical and plumbing repair or new construction.
  3. Inspect building exterior and interior playground equipment and grounds, perform maintenance and minor repairs.

  4. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including:

    • Lockers
    • Furniture
    • Equipment
  5. Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by Operations staff.

  6. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.

  7. Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as:

    • Desks
    • Tables
    • Chairs
    • File cabinets
    • Etc.
  8. Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.

  9. Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.

  10. Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.

  11. Install ceiling and flooring materials.

  12. Any other assigned duties.

Driving

  1. Operate light or heavy truck, bus, lift, or machinery as qualified by governing agencies or as directed by the Director of Operations to complete tasks as required to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.

Safety

  1. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.

  2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including:

    • Lifting
    • Climbing
    • Etc.
  3. Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

  4. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
