Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The General Maintenance Technician will perform general and routine tasks associated with technical maintenance, physical condition and repair of the college's equipment and facilities.

This will be a second shift position (Monday - Friday, 2 pm - 11 pm).

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Two years broad based general maintenance work including painting, carpentry, door repair, moving, remodels or construction experience
  • Experience with construction practices, knowledge, and use of basic tools and functions
  • Valid Driver's License with a driving record in good standing
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

PREFFERED QULAIFICATIONS:

  • Five years general maintenance experience.

Door hardware experience

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Move furniture, make deliveries, assemble items (bookcases, storage units, desks, etc.) mount items, repair furniture, cabinetry, countertops, and other similar types of work
  • Perform small construction projects such as office additions and remodel projects, including metal stud-framing and sheetrock work
  • Complete general maintenance and other work orders as assigned
  • Maintain Facilities including flooring, ceiling, walls, doors, windows, roofing, painting, sealing, etc. to effectively keep buildings operational, safe and appealing
  • Assist the other General Maintenance mechanics, other Trades, Grounds and Housekeeping as needed
  • Keep van/truck and tools in organized and working order and serviced as needed
  • Report for call in, after hours, weekend and holidays as needed for emergencies and to clear ice and snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots
  • Able to work effectively as part of team
  • Use phone and or computer to close work orders, send emails, research material and record daily time worked
  • Participate in related safety and training classes to operate equipment that may include tractor, forklift, scissor lift, aerial lift, and skid steer
  • Maintain locks, signs, keys, door hardware and building signage and other locksmith duties
  • Maintain adequate inventories of supplies and equipment necessary to maintain facilities
  • Utilize technical tools to access facilities system to aid in trouble shooting
  • Observe all safety measures when working with chemicals, paints, epoxy, etc. and use PPE as required
  • Frequent travel to centers to perform repairs and preventative maintenance duties
  • Complete other tasks and duties as assigned.
