POSITION TITLE: General Maintenance

FLSA: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Facility Manager, Supervisor of Maintenance

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days and benefits will be specified in the employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on the actual start date.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Commercial paint experience and general carpentry skills preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull a minimum of 20 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to perform physical labor in hot and cold outdoor environments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Use the correct brush and roller pads with oil or latex paints.
  • Use correct paints and varnish for application.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, such as scraping, cleaning, de-glossing, masking, caulking, spackling, and glazing, as well as using drop cloths.
  • Use paint brush in a manner as to prevent lap marks when painting a smooth surface. Prevent run overs and paint sagging.
  • Use the right viscosity of paint to prevent dripping.
  • Properly mix and use epoxy paints.
  • Use the correct types of paint on metal, wood, masonry, plaster, and drywall.
  • Follow safety procedures to protect themselves and others from exposure to paint fumes, chemicals, and other hazards. This includes using proper ventilation, wearing protective gear such as goggles and respirators, and following safety protocols when working at heights or with power tools.
  • Proficient in all aspects of drywall work, including acoustic spraying.
  • Knowledge of flooring material: carpet to VCT.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance equipment.
  • Builds a variety of items (e.g. block walls, counter tops, cabinets, shelving, moldings, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
  • Coordinates with assigned facility manager and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Repairs roofs and roof sections for the purpose of ensuring District sites are maintained in a safe working condition.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive professional working relationships with others
  • Must be able to work independently, sometimes with minimal supervision.
  • Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and district administration.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration, and community patrons.
  • Ability to identify problems and resolve proactively.
  • Must be willing to work overtime or after hours whenever needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
