Prince William County, Virginias Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is looking for a skilled and motivated supervisor to lead maintenance staff and coordinate equipment and operations that help keep our parks and recreation facilities safe, functional, and welcoming. About This Role:

As a Maintenance Supervisor with Prince William Countys Department of Parks and Recreation, you will provide hands-on leadership to ensure our parks, buildings, and recreational facilities remain safe, well-maintained, and ready to serve the community. You will oversee daily maintenance operations, implement preventative maintenance programs, coordinate staff schedules, and respond to changing priorities, emergencies, and operational challenges. This role requires a proactive leader who can troubleshoot complex maintenance issues, monitor the quality of work, conduct facility inspections, and build strong relationships with customers by addressing concerns and ensuring exceptional service.

In addition to leading daily operations, you will manage maintenance projects from planning through completion by developing scopes of work, estimating labor and material needs, coordinating contractors, monitoring budgets and schedules, and ensuring quality outcomes. You will also play a critical role in developing and supporting your team through coaching, performance management, training, and fostering a positive, safety-focused work environment. Success in this position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, as you will collaborate with staff, contractors, community partners, and County stakeholders while maintaining accurate documentation, preparing reports, responding to customer inquiries, and ensuring compliance with County policies, procedures, and safety standards. The ideal candidate is a reliable leader who consistently follows through on responsibilities, adapts to changing priorities, and is dedicated to delivering exceptional service to the community.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 3 years of experience planning, scheduling, organizing and prioritizing work activities related to the maintenance and care of buildings and park amenities; supervision and management of staff; use and care of industry applicable equipment and vehicles; providing customer service to stakeholders.

Preferences:

  • Experience using Work Order software
  • Experience using MS Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Experience using Payroll Time entry software
  • Experience using Virtual Meeting software (Teams, Webex, Zoom, etc.)
  • Experience performing carpentry work
  • Experience performing HVAC work
  • Experience performing plumbing work
  • Experience performing electrical work

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License and must meet PWC driving eligibility requirements
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination, driving record check, and background check
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • May be required to respond to emergencies after normal working hours, as needed
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Work Schedule: This is a 7-day per week operation. The typical workday is 7.5 hours; generally Monday-Friday with some rotating weekend requirements. Schedule is generally 6am-2pm with slight variations for start and stop times. May include evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Hiring Salary Range: $35.80-$41.88
