The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal officer for the State Fire Marshals Office, providing legal counsel, representation, and expertise on all matters related to fire prevention, safety regulations, emergency management, the development of state statutes, and administrative law. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the agencys mission to protect lives, property, and the environment from fire-related hazards. Additionally, the General Counsel will oversee inspection of public records requests that come to the Fire Marshals Office, and work with the Records Custodian to provide responsive documents to the public. The General Counsel will also collaborate with the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on relevant issues.
