VACANCY NOTICE
NUTRITION SERVICES - GENERAL ASSISTANT
LOCATION: Douglas Elementary School
DAYS: Monday - Friday on days school is in session
HOURS: 8:30 am - 1:30 pm - 5 hours/day
PAY RATE: Grade D, Step 1- $15.08 per hour
START DATE: September 1, 2026, or as determined by the Supervisor of Nutrition Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
HS Diploma or GED
Aptitude for passing ServSafe Food Handler course within first 12 months of employment
Basic email and computer experience
Aptitude for basic mathematical calculations & cash handling
General manual dexterity
Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, building staff & students
Ability to accept direction and work both independently & in a team environment
Demonstrates high level of dependability
Ability to properly operate and care for food service equipment
Attentive to detail
Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with co-workers
Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in interactions with staff & students at all times
REPORTS TO: HS Production Manager and Nutrition Services Supervisor
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform routine food service tasks in accordance with the district's food safety plan following established standard operating procedures [SOPs]
Attend all required in-service trainings and meetings; complete all mandatory annual continuing education requirements as established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
Possess working knowledge of USDA meal pattern requirements and offer vs serve in accordance with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) guidelines
Prepare weekly food & supply order according to planned menu using just in-time ordering method
Receive weekly food & supply delivery; check items in, rotate/date-mark stock & place in proper storage location
Determine proper portioning for menu items according to daily production record and lay out corresponding serving utensils
Receive prepared menu items & production record/transport sheet daily for meal service; take food temps and record on production paperwork; take any required corrective actions according to district SOPs/food safety plan
Receive daily lunch count from main office and make adjustments to any on-site meal preparation/planned quantities
Prepare fresh/canned fruit, hot vegetables, sub sandwiches and condiments according to daily production record for same-day service (wash & portion); record starting quantities on daily production record
Serve planned menu in accordance with daily production record
Provide direct supervision of and direction to students in the meal service area, including ensuring students take the mandated meal components required for meeting federal nutrition standards
Serve as a back-up point-of-sale operator, processing staff/student meal & a la carte milk purchases
Clear serving line of all leftover food & record leftover quantities on daily production record; return all production paperwork to Nutrition Services the following day
Clean & sanitize work areas, serving lines, equipment and cafeteria tables before and after use
Any other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or production staff as necessary to meet program goals and objectives
