Overview --------
Gas Technician III - Construction are responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operations of the Citys gas distribution system.
Responsibilities ----------------
• Use small hand tools and stopple equipment • Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipefitting, and assist with other pipeline maintenance as required • Operate backhoe trenching machine and other semi-heavy maintenance and construction equipment • Inspect equipment, make adjustments, and minor repairs to maintain equipment in proper operating condition • Performs clerical tasks such as completing required forms used to document inspections from work orders in accordance with Department procedures and/or regulatory requirements • Reviews all paperwork prepared by subordinates • Operates a 1 Ton truck, 2 12 ton crew truck, winch truck, dump truck, pickup truck, pole, and float trailers, ditches, air compressors, welding machine, and equipment • Perform the planning and supervision of work crew • Review and monitor work progress of crew ensuring work is being conducted in accordance with company procedures • Performs plastic pipe fusion with the use of poly fusion and electro fusion equipment and operates line locating equipment and colt meters for taking pipe-to-soil potentials • Installs or repairs mains services and meter loops • Removes and/or exchanges gas meters as part of maintenance work tasks • Checks for stopped meters and houseline pressures using water manometer • Serve as primary welder involved in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution facilities by performing pipe fitting and welding • Performs electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding to cut and fit pipe ranging from ½" to 12" in diameter • Welds stopple fittings on gas mains and operates stopple equipment to make hot taps and/or valve off sections of pipe • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work --------------------------------------
• Non-exempt - Full-Time • Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, must be available to work additional hours as needed. • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
Minimum Qualifications ----------------------
• High School GED • Minimum of 5 years of experience
Licenses and Certifications ---------------------------
• Candidate must register with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse • A valid Class A drivers license with air brake endorsement is required. Successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas drivers license within 90 days of hire. • Certified as a competent welder by the Gas Department in both oxy-acetylene and electric arc welding • Certified to fuse Poly pipe

Basis of Rating ----------------
• A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests in addition to the panel interview.
