Take Your Career and the Team to the Next Level!Great opportunity for a dynamic, skilled, and motivated coach to lead an established year-round swim team for the Wellmark YMCA.

POSITION SUMMARY:This position is responsible for planning, managing, and directing the swim team at the Wellmark YMCA and for ensuring the safety of participants while operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. This position will need to coach, lead and motivate athletes in practice groups and at meets, promoting improvement and growth. In addition, this full-time position's off-deck responsibilities will include administrative and operational tasks vital to team management, growth and culture.

JOB LOCATION:Wellmark YMCA - Downtown Des Moines, Iowa
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: 40 hour work week including early mornings, evenings and/or weekend hours to accommodate practice schedules and swim competitions.
HOURLY RATE: $19.00-$21.00/hour based on experience & qualifications; Benefits Offered

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Hire, supervise, train and direct assistant coaches.
  2. In conjunction with supervisor, prepare season training plan/themes/focus and develop team events.
  3. Plan, write, schedule, and direct all team practices and meets.
  4. Maintain proper records, team lists, and reports as needed.
  5. Address member concerns by appointments and/or phone conversations.
  6. Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
  7. Monitor and maintain equipment.
  8. Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
  9. Report specific problems or needs to supervisor or designated staff person.
  10. Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
  11. Communicate with the team and staff information regarding team activities, meets, goals and daily training plans.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  13. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
  2. Completion of high school or equivalent
  3. Two years of competitive coaching experience
  4. Working knowledge of competitive teams
  5. Demonstrated computer skills in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office environment
  6. American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches (Lifeguard certification will be accepted with proof of successful completion of the online Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification)
  7. YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving
  8. Registered USA Swimming Coach or obtained in the first 30 days if hired
  9. Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR equivalent - prior to starting.
  10. Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired.
  11. Additional training to be completed and maintained afterwards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in an office, fitness, and/or aquatic oriented environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces. This position works a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate program activities and events. Travel will be required for swim meets including out-of-the-area and overnight travel. The employee must have the ability to work a flexible schedule.
