What youll do on a typical day

The Full-time Nurse Aide faculty primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Nurse Aide Certificate (NAS) Program; developing course syllabi and instructional materials; maintaining instructional records; student recruitment, advisement and retention; developing and evaluating courses, programs and services; participating in College activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the College. This position receives general supervision from the Nurse Aide Program Director and the Division Chair of Public Services.

The position includes clinical instruction, and instruction in the traditional and online learning environments. The Nurse Aide program is approved by the Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR). A full-time faculty position at Davidson-Davie Community College is a nine-month contract.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works collaboratively with administrative support staff to develop cross-training opportunities and knowledge sharing.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings
  • Instruct Nurse Aide students in "art of bedside nursing" through engaging classroom curriculum, skills lab and clinical settings/scenarios.
  • Instruct Nurse Aide students in didactic, skills lab and clinical settings and scenarios.
  • Teaching assigned courses at any and/or all of Davidson Davie's service locations using the delivery method needed (on-line, hybrid, face-to-face, video conferencing, etc.).
  • Teaching times include morning/day, evening, or weekend hours.
  • Ensuring that teaching strategies include active student engagement, timely and consistent feedback, and accurate up-to-date record keeping (attendance, grades in Moodle, Starfish, midterm, and final grade reporting, etc.).
  • Ensure that all training and skill activities adhere to the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation guidelines.
  • Assist in the coordination of state testing for the students
  • Assist the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator with Nurse Aide Program site equipment maintenance, organization of documentation and implementation of the Nurse Aide program.
  • Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements and progress reports.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various textbooks and select books to be used for future classes.
  • Assist in the recruitment of students.
  • Participate in college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
  • Demonstrate community involvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that achieve the mission and initiatives of the college

Your attributes

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Per the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation Health Care Personnel Education and Credentialing Section, the minimum competency and qualifications for faculty for a Nurse Aide Level I program shall include:

  • Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered Nurse in North Carolina

  • Two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in the United States

  • The successful applicant must meet at least one of the following:

  • Completion of a course in teaching adults.

  • Experience in teaching adults.

  • Experience in supervising nurse aides.

  • Skill in the use of computers and commitment to using technology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in nursing with a functional emphasis in nursing education
  • Prior college teaching experience, especially in a nurse aide or associate degree nursing program
  • Experience in the instructional use of computers and non-traditional teaching methods
  • Acute and long-term health care facility experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification
