Position Purpose:
Piedmont Virginia Community College is seeking an innovative and collaborative individual to join the faculty as a 12-month hybrid Instructor/Assistant/Associate Professor of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing faculty member.
Appointment Date: July 1, 2026.
PVCC desires applicants with a commitment to the community college mission; teaching, learning, and student success; integration of learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching; use of current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction; and other responsibilities that contribute to the progress of the college.
This is a 12-month faculty position at Piedmont Virginia Community College, supporting the college's integrated academic and workforce mission. This hybrid faculty position teaches both credit-bearing and non-credit, skills-based courses supporting PVCC's Biotechnology academic programs and emerging academic and professional offerings in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing.
The successful candidate will teach a minimum of 9-11 credit hours and 136-165 non-credit hours per fall and spring semesters, and 6-7 credit hours and 90-110 non-credit hours which may include day, evening and weekend, off-campus, or distance education courses. The candidate's workload may shift instructional offerings (e.g., credit/non-credit) based on the needs of the College and program.
Finalists will be invited to present a teaching demonstration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction (Credit - Biotechnology)
Instruction (Non-Credit - Skilled Trades & Workforce Development)
Provide non-credit workforce training through:
FastForward programs
Open enrollment courses
Employer-responsive training models
Design and deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical manufacturing training aligned with regional workforce needs
Develop and instruct in specialized subject areas, including:
Safety and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Current good documentation practices
Quantitative skills for pharmaceutical manufacturing
Good manufacturing practices (GMP) and documentation
Disinfection, sterilization, and containment
Aseptic technique at the bench and in the biosafety cabinet
Cell culture and fermentation
Upstream and downstream process validation
Manual fill-finish operations (capping, inspection)
Regulatory compliance (FDA, EPA, OSHA) and inspection preparation
Program Development and Curriculum Design
Create flexible, industry-aligned curriculum across multiple delivery formats, including:
Traditional academic courses
Credit for prior learning (CPL)
Bootcamps and intensive workforce pathways
Modular and short-term training programs
Align curriculum with industry standards, including NIBRT competencies
Support external validation through Bioscience Core Skills Institute micro-credentials
Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, including:
Manufacturing Specialist (MS) credential
