 JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:  Custodian-Secondary Building

DEFINITION OF POSITION: Create an attractive, sanitary and safe campus for students, staff and the public. Provide equipment and furniture for meetings, classroom activities and events as needed. Be available to open doors for pre-arranged meetings and be prepared to clean up after all evening events. Provide daily and sustained custodial services as defined below.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a custodian is desired
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment
  • Strong knowledge in handling industrial strength cleaning supplies
  • Ability to understand and carry out OSHA standards
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds safely
  • A good mechanical aptitude is desired
  • Experience and enjoyment in working with students
  • Ability to assist administrators in job performance
  • Demonstrate flexibility in job orientation and working with others
  • Follow through on assigned tasks without reminders and with minimal supervision
  • Have demonstrated the ability to consistently:

-         Work positively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization

-         Meet multiple demands and deadlines in a pressure situation and maintain high levels of quality work

-         Meet the public in a positive, helpful, and professional manner

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to spend most of the workday standing, lifting, and walking
  • Ability to bend and move well enough to sweep, mop, and vacuum floors
  • Ability to climb ladders to change light bulbs and perform other tasks
  • Ability to see well enough to inspect cleanliness of work areas
  • Ability to shovel snow and ice when necessary
  • Adherence to PPE requirements 
  • Closed-toed shoes, gloves, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES

  • Perform assigned cleaning tasks, including cleaning of rest rooms, floors, carpets, walls, furniture, and white boards. Empty trash containers, refill towels, soap, and tissue dispensers. Work may require use of power tools and/or hazardous chemicals; must know how to use them safely
  • In the course of work, inspect building grounds, and equipment for safety and for repairs needed. Report all need for major repairs to Maintenance Supervisor in a timely manner. Make minor repairs to furniture and equipment, including repair lockers. Replace interior light bulbs as needed.
  • Prepare the facilities for after-school activities, including setting up chairs and tables, opening building for scheduled events, and assisting groups as needed. Clean up and secure building after activities; check ALL exterior doors and windows.
  • Assist with work during the summer for the purpose of supporting the ongoing maintenance program required by the district. This may include, but is not limited to, painting, caulking, staining, sanding, strip and wax floors, shampooing carpets, moving furniture, cleaning lockers
  • Attend in-service training like Blood Borne Pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, maintenance training, and monthly meetings
  • Daily cleaning of health room, office, and staff room
  • Check facilities use calendar daily and respond to items involving secondary building
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned

TERMS OF SERVICE:

  • Salary: $49,712-$52,686
  • M-F 5 days per week/8 hrs. per day
  • Length of Assignment: 260 days
