Job Description:

  • Performs other duties as requested to ensure efficient operation of Surgical Services, including covering duties of other secretarial roles within the department.
  • Supervises clerical staff and ensures effective departmental operations, including ordering office supplies and maintaining equipment.
  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and orientation process for clerical staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
  • Communicates professionally with customers, answering telephone calls promptly and responding to messages in a timely manner.
  • Maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments, and staff.
  • Evaluates and follows up on customer complaints, taking appropriate action to ensure positive outcomes and involving leadership as needed.
  • Runs reports from the Surgery Information System to assist in maintaining department statistics and executes special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements. [Required]
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. [Required]
  • Must be able to type at least 25 wpm. [Required]
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. [Required]
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology [Required]
  • Knowledge of Powerpoint, Surgery Computer Systems and other graphics and database programs desirable. [Preferred]

Education:

  • High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]

Work Experience:

  • 1+ professional secretarial, physician office or hospital experience [Required]
  • Supervisory experience [Preferred]
