Logistics Sales Specialist

Grand Rapids, MI (Hybrid)

Company Overview

Harrison Gray Search has partnered with a growing 3PL company to help them find a sales specialist who has an existing book of business/accounts they can bring to their team. Our client operates both a successful asset-based carrier division and a growing logistics/3PL brokerage sister company. As they expand their logistics division, they are seeking a dedicated sales professional to drive new business acquisition and leverage their extensive operational capabilities. The brokerage side is still scaling, which means an early hire here has real influence over how the desk grows — not just a seat on an already-built team.

The Opportunity

Join a growing logistics/3PL brokerage backed by the financial strength and operational muscle of an established asset-based carrier. This is a pure hunting role: bring your book, sell new business, and hand off execution to a dedicated in-house carrier coordination team. No cold-calling truckers, no chasing capacity — just sell and manage relationships.

Position Summary

We're looking for an experienced freight broker with a proven, portable book of business to grow a national account portfolio. You'll own the customer relationship end-to-end while a dedicated team of 4–5 carrier sales coordinators (part of a 20-person department) handles sourcing, dispatch, and load execution behind the scenes.

  • Location: Grand Rapids, MI — hybrid, with a couple of in-office days per week to collaborate with the coordination team
  • Employment Type: Full-Time | W2 (Base + Commission) or 1099 Independent Agent
  • Base Salary: Plus commission scaled to the size and quality of the book of business you bring
  • Reporting Structure: Reports into internal logistics management; works alongside a dedicated carrier sales coordination team

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive New Business — Identify, prospect, and close new customer accounts and independent revenue streams — this role is not built around internal asset overflow
  • Account Management — Maintain and expand your existing book of business across an unrestricted national territory
  • Client Liaison — Serve as the primary point of contact for your clients, coordinating directly with internal logistics management to ensure service levels, pricing, and capacity commitments are met
  • Team Collaboration — Work on-site several days a week alongside a Grand Rapids-based carrier coordination team who source trucks, find drivers, and execute day-to-day load logistics
  • Represent the Brand — Represent the company professionally in all client-facing interactions, maintaining a strong reputation and demeanor consistent with the brand
  • Strategic Input — Provide input on pricing and account strategy for complex or high-maintenance accounts (e.g., automotive-related freight) in partnership with leadership

What You Bring

  • Industry Experience: 3–4+ years of direct experience in logistics/freight brokerage (not an entry-level role)
  • Established Book of Business: A verifiable, portable book of business — ideally 2,500+ loads/year or $5M+ in annual revenue
  • Industry Verticals: Open to all shipping sectors, with strong preference for existing relationships with Tier 2/3/4 automotive suppliers (direct access to the “Big Three” auto manufacturers is not required)
  • Account Complexity Experience: A track record of managing high-touch or complex accounts and the judgment to navigate varying service and pricing needs by account type
  • Proximity: Ability to be in the Grand Rapids office a couple of days a week to stay integrated with the support team
  • Professional Demeanor: Self-motivated, consultative sales style with strong relationship-management instincts; comfortable operating with a high degree of independence

What's In It for You

  • Compensation Built Around Your Book — Base salary of $60,000–$80,000 (W2) or a highly lucrative 1099 split — either way, compensation is structured around the size, revenue, and complexity of the book of business you bring. Exact commission structure is finalized individually based on your specific book and experience.
  • Commission: Client will offer commission, and overall upside depends on the candidate's current book of business.
  • Built-In Execution Support — A dedicated team of 4–5 carrier sales coordinators (within a larger 20-person department) tasked entirely with covering your loads and managing carrier relations, so you can focus on selling and managing relationships rather than chasing capacity
  • Asset-Based Backing — The financial backing and extended capabilities of a sister asset-based carrier company, giving you added credibility and reliability to offer clients
  • Room to Grow — An unrestricted national territory with no artificial account caps — grow the book as large as your relationships and effort allow
  • Early-Mover Advantage — A voice in shaping a growing brokerage desk, rather than joining a fully built-out team with limited upside

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is best suited for a freight broker who already owns a portable book of business and wants to move it to a platform with stronger execution support and asset-based backing behind it. Candidates currently placed at another 3PL — even in a non-sales capacity — who have insight into or relationships with a target account are also worth discussing, as the client is open to creative paths to new business. Familiarity with automotive supply chain freight (Tier 2/3/4 suppliers) is a strong plus but not a requirement.
