Seeking adults to share history with curious 4th-grade students on school field trips. Volunteers receive independent online training to become a field trip leader.
After training, docents lead tours twice a month on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings for the rest of the school year. This role offers the rewarding experience of inspiring children and witnessing their wonder.
Located at 4600 Virginia Road in Long Beach, the site features a 180-year-old adobe home, historic gardens, a research library, and archives. It reflects the diverse history of Indigenous, Spanish, Mexican, and American California and the evolution of Southern California from ranching to urban society.
Operated through a public-private partnership, the site is a National, State, and Local Historic Landmark. Volunteering as a docent is a meaningful way to enrich children's lives and connect with history.
