Foundry Tool & Die Repair Technician

Location: Twinsburg, Ohio | Employment: Direct Hire | Compensation: $35.00 per hour

A day in this role

You clock in for second or third shift and review die work orders and pictorials from the prior team. After receiving direction from the Team Leader or Supervisor, you move a casting or trim die using a lift truck to the cleaning bay, break it down safely with the proper equipment, and inspect every core, segment, and detail against print. You machine or rebuild components to match original specifications, then draw-polish and grind cavity surfaces to perfection. When production calls, you head to the machine to free a stuck casting, correct a dimensional issue, or swap a core or trim punch—all with the die mounted and running. Between jobs, you handle welding in the foundry or the Die Repair Department, button up documentation and sign-offs, and keep the area orderly. You also lend a hand training newer teammates, passing along best practices and safety-first habits.

What you will do

  • Repair, rebuild, and maintain casting and trim dies to original specifications, operating all related machines and equipment
  • Receive instructions and priorities from the Team Leader and/or Supervisor
  • Transport, clean, disassemble, repair, and reassemble dies using lift trucks, die-cleaning equipment, and cranes
  • Build and replace segments, cores, details, and parts from blueprints using the required tools and equipment
  • Draw polish and grind die cavity surfaces
  • Make in-press repairs: remove stuck castings, correct dimensional issues, and change cores and trim punches while dies are mounted on machines
  • Perform welding duties in the foundry and the Die Repair Department
  • Troubleshoot production tooling problems and perform required maintenance
  • Complete forms, die work orders, pictorials, sign-offs, and records
  • Maintain a neat, organized work area and department
  • Train new employees
  • Perform other tasks necessary for safe and efficient tool and die repair as assigned by supervision

Shifts

  • Second Shift: 3:00pm - 11:00pm
  • Third Shift: 11:00pm - 7:00am

Qualifications

  • Role-specific experience (be prepared to explain your months of experience); up to 2 years of training may be required; Tool & Die Journeyman papers are a plus but not required
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience draw-polishing or grinding die cavity surfaces using the required tools and equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to perform highly skilled tasks and solve complex problems
  • Associate degree, trade or technical school, or journeyperson certification required
