Forward Deployed Engineer

We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to lead the deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions within enterprise financial organizations.

This is real engineering—not solutions consulting or pre-sales. You'll work directly with sophisticated enterprise clients, embedding within their engineering and operations teams to customize, integrate, and deploy production-grade AI systems. You'll own deployments from kickoff through production, combining software engineering, AI implementation, systems integration, and technical leadership.

Most of your time will be spent building software, with the remainder focused on collaborating with business and technical stakeholders to ensure successful adoption and measurable business outcomes.

This is a long-term 1099 Independent Contractor opportunity based in New York City.

The role requires 4 days per week onsite with enterprise clients during the initial engagement, with the possibility of transitioning to 3 onsite days per week as the relationship matures, depending on performance and business needs.

Important: This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Candidates must already have permanent authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end deployment of AI products within enterprise client environments.
• Build production-ready software using Python, TypeScript, and React.
• Design APIs and backend integrations connecting multiple enterprise systems.
• Customize AI-powered workflows to fit each client's operational processes.
• Develop intuitive user interfaces used daily by business stakeholders.
• Build and improve production LLM applications, including agent workflows, RAG systems, evaluation pipelines, and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Make architectural decisions balancing existing AI frameworks with custom engineering solutions.
• Collaborate directly with portfolio managers, analysts, traders, operations teams, compliance, and engineering leadership.
• Manage deployment milestones from discovery through production rollout.
• Own deployment success metrics, including production reliability, user adoption, client satisfaction, and business impact.

Requirements

Technical Experience

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems.
• Strong proficiency with Python, TypeScript, and React.
• Experience designing APIs and integrating enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, version control, code reviews, documentation, and release management.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying AI-powered applications using Large Language Models.
• Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agent orchestration, prompt evaluation, and human-in-the-loop AI workflows.
• Understanding of production AI architecture, including chunking strategies, reranking, grounding, evaluation, and orchestration.

Delivery Experience

• Experience leading customer-facing technical implementations from kickoff through production.
• Ability to manage technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple business functions.
• Proven ownership of complex software deployments with measurable business outcomes.
• Comfortable working independently while making high-impact technical decisions.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Deployment Engineer, or similar client-facing engineering role.
• Experience within financial services, hedge funds, investment management, fintech, or banking.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments.
• Personal AI projects, open-source contributions, or experimentation with modern AI tooling.
• Experience deploying enterprise AI solutions into production.
