Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a crew of pipefitters and apprentices on commercial/industrial job sites; assign tasks and ensure productivity and workmanship standards.

  • Review drawings (blueprints, isometrics, piping schematics) and plan pipe runs, sequencing, and installation approach; confirm field conditions and resolve conflicts.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers, General Contractors, other trades, and client representatives to hit schedule milestones, manage constraints, and maintain jobsite communication.

  • Install, assemble, and align piping systems (carbon steel, stainless, copper, PVC/CPVC, etc.) including valves, flanges, supports, and hangers—remaining hands-on as needed.

  • Direct and verify fabrication activities (thread, groove, weld, braze, join) and ensure proper fit-up, alignment, and support installation.

  • Oversee testing/commissioning readiness: pressure testing, inspections, punch list completion, and documentation to confirm compliance and system integrity.

  • Manage jobsite materials and tooling: coordinate deliveries, track inventory, identify long-lead needs, and maintain equipment in safe working order.

  • Enforce safety protocols and lead by example: daily pre-task planning, JHA/JSAs, lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, PPE, housekeeping, and incident prevention.

  • Mentor and train apprentices/junior pipefitters; provide on-the-job coaching and maintain standards for craftsmanship and professionalism.

  • Identify scope changes, field issues, or productivity risks early; communicate promptly to project management with recommended solutions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent technical trade schooling) preferred.

  • Minimum of 5–10 years of pipefitting/mechanical piping experience in commercial/industrial settings, with prior lead/foreman experience strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, piping isometrics, and fabrication plans; capable of field planning and layout.

  • Strong working knowledge of fabrication and installation methods: alignment, supports/hangers, threading, grooving, welding/brazing (as applicable), joining techniques, and pressure testing.

  • Proven ability to lead crews, coordinate work across trades, and maintain schedule/quality under real jobsite conditions.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites.

  • Strong safety mindset with experience enforcing jobsite safety practices and leading toolbox talks / pre-task planning.

  • Preferred: journeyman pipefitter credential; welding certification (AWS/ASME); experience with HVAC/process piping systems (steam, chilled/hot water, compressed air, process utilities).
