Position Summary

The Gillett School District is seeking a dedicated and organized Food Services Director/Head Cook to oversee all aspects of our district's food service operation. In this dual leadership and hands-on role, you will manage food production, supervise kitchen staff, handle administrative reporting, and ensure high-quality, nutritious meals are prepared and served to our students in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Management: Implement and supervise the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, and Summer Food Service Programs. Plan monthly menus that meet USDA and Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) guidelines.

  • Kitchen Operations & Cooking: Plan, prepare, and cook main entrees. Regularly inspect kitchen facilities, utensils, and equipment to maintain strict health and safety standards.

  • Daily Logistical Support: Load, deliver, and record temperatures for meals transported daily via district minivan to the elementary school; return kitchenware to the high school daily.

  • Financial & Administrative Duties: Develop the annual food service budget, manage vendor bids, process invoices, track inventory using FIFO principles, and maintain required DPI records/reporting. Continuously monitor and apply for available school nutrition grants.

  • Staff Leadership: Schedule, train, and evaluate kitchen personnel. Manage time sheets and arrange for substitute workers as needed.

  • Compliance & Safety: Maintain the district's HACCP Food Safety Plan, manage confidential student dietary/allergy documentation, and prepare for biennial health inspections and DPI administrative reviews.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently lift/move 30+ pounds, including bending, twisting, and carrying heavy objects up and down stairs.

  • Ability to push or pull kitchen equipment and meal carts weighing 50-150 pounds.

  • Comfort working in walk-in freezers for inventory rotation and driving a district minivan in all weather conditions for daily meal deliveries (appropriate gear required).

  • Ability to set up and take down collapsible cafeteria tables.
