All of our schools have been named National Blue Ribbon schools, with Palm Crest and Paradise Canyon Elementary Schools recognized in 2021. La Cañada High School 78 was named a National Forum School to Watch" school four times, most recently in 2023. All LCUSD schools have been designated as California Distinguished Schools, with its three elementary schools recognized again in 2023.

Job Summary

A food service workers primary responsibilities are to assist in the preparation and serving of school meals and to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen. Interview candidates may be asked about the possibility of subbing in a food service worker position if the vacant position is filled.

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. Previous Experience: Experience in food service. Preferred experience in cashiering.
  2. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the eighth grade, high school equivalency desired.

Work Year: 3.75 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with a work calendar of student instructional days plus two additional days (SY 2), considered to be a total of ten (10) months. The first day of work in the 2025-26 school year is August 11, 2025, and the last day of work is June 4, 2026. Work hours tend to fall mid-morning to early afternoon. A six-month probationary period must be passed before a new employee becomes permanent with the District.

Salary: Placement on classified salary range 17 is dependent on previous experience as a food service worker. The monthly salary is disbursed in two paychecks on the 10th and 25th of the month, September through mid-June. For positions at 3.75 hours per day, the wage range is 1417.34 to 1808.93 per month, which is commensurate to 17.44 to 22.26 per hour. Substitute positions are paid at an hourly rate that is dependent on experience, between 17.44 and 22.26 per hour. Substitutes keep timesheets for all time worked during a calendar month. Payment is issued on the 10th of the following month.

Benefits: This position does not meet the eligibility requirements to participate in the Districts medical benefits plans.
