Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Dietary Manager, performs a variety of tasks in the kitchen and dietary office to support patient and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include food preparation, service, sanitation, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Demonstrates professionalism and teamwork while contributing to high-quality nutritional care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are the essential job functions for this position. The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to, those listed in this job description.   • Adheres to established Hospital/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment and Improvement Program, Infection Assessment and Improvement Program, legal, safety, environmental control standards, and Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Check supplies needed for tray line.
  • Check daily assignments for the area assigned.
  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Keep a record of areas that have been cleaned and turn them in at the office at the end of the day
  • Keep the kitchen and cafeteria clean by emptying all the trash as needed
  • Set up and serve patient trays
  • Prepare, dish, and serve food for patients, the cafeteria, and /or catering
  • Participants in cross-training activities were eligible.
  • Clean and store dishes and equipment; maintain a clean and neat work area
  • Operates dishwashing, slicer, blender, and other mechanical equipment
  • May be required to work on different assignments during the day
  • Transport and store supplies
  • Clean the kitchen areas and cook utensils.
  • Diet office duties: answering telephone, picking up patient menus, tally menus for production staff, and arranging menus for the tray line.
  • Complies with VPH policies and procedures on customer satisfaction and service excellence.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and cultural sensitivity in coordinating activities and communicating with all customers, peers, and the community at large.
  • Conducts self in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner during all interactions.
  • Works effectively and collaboratively with others toward common goals.
  • Communicates accurately, honestly, supportively, and promptly with department and interdepartmental team members.
  • Demonstrates effective business writing and oral communication skills; handwriting is clear and legible.
  • Participates in operational aspects of the department and maintains/participates in performance improvement activities within the department.
  • Participates in all departmental-specific training, Environment of Care (injury/illness prevention, fire/life safety, hazardous materials, emergency preparedness, utilities management, medical equipment management, safety and security management), infection control (standard precautions, TB Exposure Control Plan, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows safety practices.
  • Understands the importance of safety, including patient safety, in the workplace.
  • Maintains a safe environment for self and others.
  • Actively participates in the Patient Safety Program, including event reporting. Identifies sentinel events/near misses and responds according to defined organization processes.
  • Participate in educational activities and process implementation.
  • Demonstrates advocacy for the patient/customer and appropriately acknowledges patients, customers, and visitors.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One year of food service experience is preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • High school equivalent or comparable experience preferred.
  • Prefer special training in understanding menus.

LICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification
  • Must complete and maintain Management of Assaultive Behavior (MOAB) training within the first 30 days of employment/transfer

MUST HAVES:

All required licensures, certifications, mandatory education, and annual occupational health screenings must be completed before the expiration date or by the end of the month in which they are due. Reference the Educational Requirements: Must Haves, Mandatory, and Unit-Based policy (in electronic policy management system) for the specific requirements for this position.
