Summary:

The Dietary Assistant is responsible for providing services in the respective satellite kitchens and dining rooms, ensuring all customers' needs are satisfied. The Dietary Assistant is responsible for making salads and supporting the cooks in meal preparation when assigned. The Assistant is expected to behave in a manner consistent with the Core Values and must collaborate with other Associates and departments to ensure the overall mission is achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Respond to requests to support the dietary needs of the Sisters residing at buildings with the satellite kitchens.
  • Serve meals in a timely and customer-friendly manner.
  • Greet and respond to the Sisters and other customers respectfully.
  • Communicate requests to others within the dietary department, as necessary, to ensure all needs are met.
  • Responsible for obtaining all necessary food and supplies for the satellite kitchens.
  • Maintain all storerooms and refrigerators in terms of sanitation and stock rotation.
  • Perform short-order type cooking when required at the satellite kitchen.
  • Perform food preparation at the main kitchen if assigned.
  • Receive prepared food from the main kitchen and maintain it at the proper temperature.
  • Record all food temperatures when delivered from the main kitchen.
  • Prepare trays and carts for each meal to deliver to residents unable to come to the dining rooms. They are prepared from written special diets, and proper temperatures must be maintained.
  • Set up the dining room, including silverware, beverages, steam tables, and garnishes. Breaking down these items is also required.
  • Responsible for minimizing the waste of food. Must label, date, and store food at proper temperatures.
  • Wash and put away all dishes from all meals.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen and dining room floors.
  • Responsible for all sanitation-trash removal, cleaning out all cabinets and drawers, cleaning steam tables and wells, etc.
  • Attend all production meetings to stay informed about upcoming menus, events, and the dietary needs and preferences of residents.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of CHRISTUS Health and those specific to Villa de Matel Center.
  • Attend and participate in interdisciplinary team and departmental meetings.
  • Attend and participate in approved educational events.
  • Provide feedback through Associate Satisfaction surveys and other focus groups /surveys to improve and maintain a great place to work.
  • May be assigned other related duties as necessary by the Director or Supervisor.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience

  • One (1) year of food preparation is preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Food Handlers Certificate is preferred
  • Texas Driver's License

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
