Job Description


Mount Edgecumbe High School, a unique state-operated boarding school committed to the education and well-being of students, is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Food Service Workers to join our Food Services team. In this role, you will be essential in providing nutritious and appealing meals to our students and contributing to a positive and supportive environment within our school community. You will be involved in various aspects of food preparation, service, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen and dining area. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to directly impact the lives of our students.


These positions are for the 2026-2027 school year and will begin between July and August of 2026.


Responsibilities


+ Accurately inputs sales and transactions into the POS system.

+ Handles cash, credit/debit payments, and meal account balances.

+ Counts and reconciles cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to prepare deposits.

+ Assists students, staff, and visitors with general inquiries and food/beverage selections.

+ Makes recommendations based on menu items and availability.

+ Maintains a positive, courteous, and helpful demeanor at all times.

+ Continuously monitors work areas to ensure all food and product levels are maintained, stocked, and refreshed.

+ Prepares, portions, and stores a variety of products, ensuring compliance with food safety guidelines.

+ Stocks and restocks service machines and prep areas as needed.

+ Washes dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen tools by hand or using industrial cleaning equipment.

+ Cleans and organizes kitchen equipment, spike rooms (secure storage), serving lines, and prep areas.

+ Sweeps, mops, and wipes down dining, kitchen, and storage areas to maintain a safe and clean environment.

+ Participates in scheduled deep-cleaning projects (e.g., equipment detailing, floor scrubbing).

+ Properly disposes of garbage and waste materials from designated areas.

+ Assists in the setup and breakdown of service stations, including tables, display cases, snack bars, and serving lines.

+ Ensures all workspaces are left clean and orderly after service.

+ Other duties may be assigned as needed and that the employee is qualified to do.


Qualifications


+ High school diploma or GED equivalent.

+ One (1) year customer service and/or food service experience preferred.

+ Must have the willingness to work as part of a team, take directions, and interact politely with customers.

+ Must be able to show up on time and complete scheduled shifts reliably.

+ Food Handler’s Card or ServSafe Certification contingent upon 30 days of hire.

+ Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.

+ Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements


Weather: Work is primarily done indoors, occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.


Noise level: Moderate to Loud.


Description of environment: Environment will vary based on the facility assigned to, primarily in a cafeteria kitchen or dining facility.


Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
