Job Title: Food Service Specialist
Reports To: Director of Food Service
Job Purpose: The Food Service Specialist would perform day-to-day office responsibilities, provide school-based kitchen operational support, and complete other food service functions as needed.
Qualifications-Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent
ServSafe Certification
Three years of food service experience and school nutrition
Knowledge of USDA & HHFKA school nutrition programs and food safety regulations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and food service management software
Strong organizational, communication, and recordkeeping skills
Valid NJ Drivers License
Must be able to pass the NJ Criminal History Review
Must be able to pass the post-offer physical examination
Must be able to submit the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure Form
Qualifications-Desired:
Experience as office staff in a school district
Experience Infinite Campus reporting
Experience with Mosiac Point of Sale program
Experience with MySchoolApps program
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide operational and administrative support to the Food Service Director
Serve as a resource for Head Cooks and cafeteria staff regarding daily operational procedures
Conduct site visits to monitor program consistency, food quality, and compliance with department standards
Assist with the implementation of district food service procedures and initiatives
Support staffing logistics by helping coordinate substitute coverage and schedule adjustments as needed
Assist with onboarding and training of new food service employees
Monitor compliance with USDA, NSLP, state, and district requirements
Assist with food safety programs, including HACCP recordkeeping, sanitation monitoring, and preparation for health inspections
Review production records, meal counts, temperature logs, and other required documentation for accuracy and completeness
Assist with inventory tracking, food ordering, and USDA Foods management
Coordinate with vendors regarding deliveries, product substitutions, shortages, and service issues
Assist with menu implementation and recipe standardization across all schools
Monitor meal presentation, portion control, and customer service standards
Support initiatives aimed at increasing student participation in school meal programs
Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence related to food service operations
Assist with monthly claims, state reporting, and other program-related administrative requirement
Maintain department records, invoices, purchase orders, and other operational documents
Utilize food service software to monitor participation, generate reports, and maintain records
Respond to routine inquiries from school staff, parents, vendors, and administrators
Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as assigned
Perform other duties related to the efficient operation of the Food Service Department as assigned

Salary range of $50,000 - $85,000 based on experience
