JOB TITLE/ASSIGNMENT

Position: Food Service Manager

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • School Food Service experience or related experience
  • A minimum of three years of management or administrative experience in the food industry.
  • Ability to independently complete assigned projects and responsibilities.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

To provide an excellent, nutritious food service program which meets local, state and federal requirements of the needs of students throughout the district.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current trends and standards in the preparation and distribution of institutional foods and dietetics. Knowledge of USDA regulations, State Board of Education rules, centralized purchasing, standards of health, safety and cleanliness. Knowledge of specification writing for food service equipment and architectural design. Knowledge of public relations. Knowledge of nutrition and quantity food production. Skill in administrative and financial management operations. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Monitor Food Service Management Company (FSMC) to ensure all contractual requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Directs and coordinates the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the district wide food service program.
  • Assists principals, teachers, parents and students in promoting a better understanding of food service programs.
  • Assists principals, teachers, parents, students, and school lunchroom managers in promoting a better understanding of food service programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates approved Meal Pattern programs as required by the state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Develops specifications for and recommendations of cafeteria equipment.
  • Monitors student food service preferences by providing a vehicle for communication among students and food service and administrative personnel.
  • Works with principals and other district administrative personnel in developing food service facilities.
  • Provides assistance to district and school personnel and serves as district contact person in providing for nutrition education.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of the state, federal and local laws and regulations applicable to school lunch programs.
  • Provides assistance to school food service personnel and staff in complying with state statutes, State Board of Education Rules, federal laws, and USDA regulations.
  • Responsible for the development of administrative guidelines and policies for food service.
  • Supervises assigned personnel and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action.
  • Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
  • Responsible for the preparation and expenditures of the food services budget.
  • Establishes and supervises the maintenance of records, collection, recording and evaluation of data. Discusses cafeteria issues with principals. Prepares periodic reports as required.
  • Inspects school kitchens, facilities and operations. Coordinates alteration of equipment and revision of functions. Investigates complaints, consults with officials of the State Board of Health. Makes recommendations for improvement of sanitary conditions to the principals and other administrative personnel.
  • Oversees the "Healthy Schools Program."
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor, the

Superintendent, or the board.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. Ability to actively perform work in classroom, office, and other business and community settings. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (typically involving frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and lifting). Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Calendar Months: 12 Month

Salary Schedule: Administrative Support Pay Grade: Base

Salary and Benefits as determined and approved annually by Hendry County School Board.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board Policies for evaluation of administrative personnel.
