Hartford Union High School has a great opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant. The position is 4.00 hours each school day during the school year from 9:15-1:15. This position is responsible for providing quality meals and service to all students and staff. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Director of Food and Nutrition Services with guidance from the School Nutrition Specialist and Lead Cook.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE TASKS

Operations

  • Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Prepare and replenish food, beverages, and supplies before, during, and after meal service following production worksheets and production schedules.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as warmers, dishwashers, and other equipment and utensils.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work space; clean and sanitize preparation, serving, and cooking areas before, during, and after use.
  • Accurately record food quantities, usage, and temperatures on production worksheets.
  • Serve meals.
  • Follow all safety and quality standards.

Working Relationships

Internal

  • Must be able to relate well and effectively work with Supervisor, individual school nutrition staff, students, other school personnel, and Administration.
  • Ongoing and consistent collaboration with all School Nutrition positions.

External

  • Effectively work with vendors and suppliers.
  • Effectively work with parents/guardians, families, and the public.

Other Duties

  • Participate in annual continuing education as required by USDA.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Remain free of any abuse of alcohol or illegal substances in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4122.01 throughout his/her employment in the District.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the District Administrator within the scope of the employment position.
