Job Title: Food Service Helper (Summer 2026) Wage/Hour Status: Hourly (19 to 32 hours per week)
Reports to: Food Service Manager Pay Range: $12 an hour
Dept/School: Child Nutrition/District-Wide Term of Employment: 05/26/2026-06/30/2026
Purpose:
Prepare and serve food. Clean and maintain equipment and facilities. Assist other food service workers in the school kitchen as assigned by the CNS Manager/CNPM
Entry Level Skills/Knowledge:
Qualifications:
Must be eligible for employment in the United States.
Must be a legal resident of the United States.
Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
Ability to count and perform simple mathematical calculations
Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and employees
Must have the ability to get along well with others
Must have valid food handlers' card or must obtain one within 10 days of hire
High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
Must have a valid driver's license or ID

Must assist in the preparation of the breakfast and lunch meals and serving line
Responsible for the security of assigned areas of responsibility

Supports all-district local state and Federal regulations as instructed by the CNPM
Follow instructions in preparation of meals, portioning, garnishing, and serving
Follows safety standards in the preparation, serving, storing and disposal of product served
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Prepare fruits, vegetables, salads and/or beverages as assigned by CNS Manager and/or cook
Assist other CNS Workers as assigned by CNS Manager/cook to prepare foods for the cafeteria by performing any combination of the following tasks: Preparation of meats or main dishes including cleaning, cutting, slicing, or cooking meats, poultry, seafood, and cheese; Preparation of breads or baked goods; preparation and serving of other foods; weighing and measuring ingredients; carrying supplies, equipment, and food to and from storage, preparation, and service areas
Serve correct portions on serving line or replenish the line
Complete production records, inventories, and other documentation and assigned
Clean own working area and other areas as assigned
Assist in the orientation or training of CNS Workers as assigned
Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by CNS Manager
Equipment Used:
Ovens, range, steam jacketed kettle
Braising pan, fryer
Mixer, food chopper, meat slicer
Ice machine, refrigerator, freezer
Dish machine, steam table
Knives, and various other food preparation equipment and tools
Use of fire suppression equipment located in the cafeteria

Heavy lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)

Reaching within a wide range of motion
Use of fingers, hands, arms, and legs
Standing and walking (up to 6 hours)
Repeated bending
Occasional climbing
Specific visual requirement (reading instructions, operating the cash register, calculator, computer measuring ingredients and assessing product quality)
Taste acuity
Ability to distinguish basic colors

Operation of motor vehicle
Must have strength and endurance to withstand any physical activity during working hours
Must be mentally and emotionally stable and able to work in a high pressure, high-stress environment, and function well under demands of physically strenuous work, mentally demanding responsibilities and emotionally challenging situations involving food service employees, students, staff, parents, vendors, and others
Environment:
Excessive heat and excessive cold

Solvents, grease, oils, fumes, and hazardous chemicals

Electrical and gas appliances
Workaround machinery with moving parts
