General Description
Job functions include administering, planning, directing, assessing, implementing, and evaluating the District's school nutrition program - breakfast and lunch - for the students and staff during the school year. The nutrition program is to provide an environment that supports healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity and customer satisfaction. This position is responsible for supervision of food service staffing and scheduling, and must ensure that all staff have met required training and are meeting expectations regarding food prep, kitchen sanitation, and are performing at the level of school food service expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and
Three (3) years of relevant food service experience.
ServeSafe certification, or ability to become certified.
Demonstrated experience in managing a food service program is preferred.
Completion of at least eight (8) hours of food safety training - either not more than five (5) years prior to starting date or completed within 30 days of start date.

Performance Responsibilities
Drafts and implements the food service budget with the Business Manager and District Administrator.
Practices established budget controls relevant to program and financial management.
Sets the standard for professionalism and positive attitude, promotes teamwork, effective communication, and positive public relations among all District Food Service staff.
Maintains an inventory of all foods, supplies, and equipment.
Recommends prices charged for various types of meals and a' la carte items.
Plans the preparation and serving of menus every month and ensures publication of menus on the District website monthly.
Reviews and recommends for purchase the Food Service software program, including menus, ingredients, recipes, costing, and production records.
Provides technical assistance and suggestions for the preparation and serving of meals to ensure that planned menus are followed and that substitutions comply with meal requirements and student allergies.
Inspects school lunch facilities and operations to ensure standards of cleanliness, health, and safety are being maintained as required by local, State, and Federal guidelines and recommends improvements.
Evaluates and makes recommendations for facilities and equipment planning and replacement and obtains all necessary bids and quotes per job.
Interviews, screens, and recommends appointment of all Food Service staff. Evaluates performance and instructs, guides, advises, and disciplines according to policy. Approves all Food Service staff timecards.
Reviews invoices, purchase orders, bids and quotes, etc. for accuracy.
Completes all federal and state contracts for subsidies; National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), and Wisconsin School Day Milk Program (WSDMP).
Completes Food Service claims, bids, contracts with distributors, and others as directed.
Monitors all of the District's schools performance in food production, serving of food, cashier/point of service, purchasing/procurement, receiving/storage, food safety, free/reduced meal benefits, communications and marketing.
Performs reasonable predictive forecasting of expected meal services based on student, staff, and/or other applicable head counts.
Implements efficient management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and policies.
Schedules and coordinates maintenance, repairs, and improvements to food service facilities and equipment.
Develops specifications for and solicits competitive prices, and requisitions all food, equipment, and supplies for the food service department.
Responsible for compliance with all Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and USDA Guidelines for menu planning, nutritional analysis, production records, procurement and receiving of USDA foods, free and reduced meal applications and direct certification.
Responsible for overseeing foodservice staff, training staff, writing performance evaluations, and working with the District Office to handle employee issues.
Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license and meet standard insurability requirements of the District.
Demonstrates ability to perform the tasks that are required of supervised employees, including:
Maintain an efficient department schedule.
Assist staff with TrueTime and approve weekly timesheets and time-off requests.
Find substitute staff when regular staff is unavailable.
Provide effective feedback to employees.
Maintain all necessary requirements to be certified as a Food Service Director.
Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities within the overall scope of the position that may be assigned by the District Administrator and/or Business Manager.

Work Hours: 8 hours per day, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Work Year: 200 days beginning on/around August 10th through on/around June 30th
