JOB TITLE: Food Service & Dining Hall Worker DEPARTMENT: Food Services REPORTS TO: Director of Food Services FLSA STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Mid-August to Mid-June | Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Position Overview: We are seeking a reliable Food Service & Dining Hall team member to assist with front-of-house dining room operations, light food preparation, and utility support. This role ensures our dining hall runs smoothly, stays clean, and provides excellent service to our students and guests.
Shift: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Flexibility required for Special Events.
Key Responsibilities: - Set up dining hall tables daily with trays, utensils, cups, and full napkin dispensers.
- Assist the culinary team with daily Blue Bar and sandwich prep, including slicing, panning, displaying foods, and preparing designated sandwich quantities.
- Set up the Blue Bar for service by lining, icing, and stocking it with daily food items, utensils, and milk cartons.
- Fill and distribute water pitchers and trays to assigned tables prior to lunch service.
- Maintain dining room cleanliness during lunch hours by collecting and organizing dirty dishes into bus tubs and transporting them to the dish area.
- Monitor and empty compost bins, trash cans, cabinets, and beverage buckets throughout the day to ensure a clean environment.
- Promptly clean up any trash or spills in the front-of-house area during service.
- Assist with front-of-house restocking duties, ensuring silverware, cups, and plates are always available.
- Manage post-lunch food quality by moving remaining prime lunch items to the side bar as needed.
- Break down, clean, and sanitize the Blue Bar and dish return tables at the end of the shift.
- Support the broader kitchen team by assisting with additional trash removal and helping the dishwashing team during down time.
- Perform weekly facility upkeep, including cleaning windows and dining room doors.
- Adapt to adjusted daily tasks based on the changing needs, popularity, and variety of the student dining program.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong teamwork skills and a willingness to assist in both front-of-house and back-of-house roles.
- Outstanding people skills with a genuine enjoyment of working around children and students.
- Must pass a clean background check.
- Must complete mandatory boundary training upon hire.
- Must have reliable transportation to ensure dependable attendance.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in food service, school cafeterias, or hospitality is a plus.
- Ability to read and follow recipes and understand basic weights and measurements. .
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds.
- Ability to lift bus tubs, trash cans, and ice, and stand for the duration of a 9-hour shift.
- Good hand-eye coordination for repetitive tasks including sandwich preparation, food slicing, panning, and wiping down tables/surfaces.
- Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating temperatures.
