Tasks performed may vary but are specific and routine based on the hours worked. Work performed is done under supervision; judgment is required. The Food Service Associate reports directly to the Cafeteria Manager of the School.Essential DutiesRequired to cashier or serve. Cashiering requires following all the policies and procedures set forth by the Food & Nutrition Services administration, including but not limited to running a register, proper counting of money and good customer service. Serving consists of proper portion control, following proper food safety practices, maintaining attractive serving lines, etc. Some cooking may be required.Prepares and portions food items according to the planned menu and standardized recipes. Assists in taste standards, and food is attractively presented; under the direction of the food service manager.Helps set up serving lines, keeps lines stocked and attractive.Maintains the cleanliness of the kitchen and serving line area, following ServSafe and local health department regulations. This may include washing pots, pans and dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning equipment, serving lines and preparation area and putting up stock, etc.Performs other related duties.Equipment Operation:Opens and operates institutional kitchen equipment, calculator, and appropriate registers.Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required)Excellent verbal and written communication skillsSome knowledge in food preparation in large quantities. Demonstrated ability to count money, product, etc. Demonstrated ability to prepare and merchandise food and work safely with equipment.Demonstrated ability to learn the federal and/or nonfederal meal program requirements and regulations.Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, staff, coworkers, vendors and the public with courtesy, tact, patience and consistency.Requirements: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or GEDExperience: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Working Conditions and Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
