Position Summary:

This is a paid internship opportunity based in Salinas, CA, within the Fresh Express Corporate Food Safety and Quality Department. The intern will work directly with Food Safety and Quality leadership and collaborate cross‑functionally with other departments.

The internship will focus on conducting trials involving emerging food safety and quality technologies, supporting traceability initiatives meeting FSMA 204 requirements, and driving continuous improvement efforts. The intern will analyze data and present findings to Fresh Express senior leadership. Additionally, the intern will gain exposure to multiple areas of the business through interviews and shadowing opportunities within agricultural operations and manufacturing facilities.

What you would do:

  • Assist with the planning, execution, and documentation of quality and food safety validation trials within the ag operation and manufacturing facility
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data; prepare reports and convert findings into PowerPoint presentations
  • Participate in cross-functional and departmental team meetings as needed
  • Support the distribution and analysis of food safety–related employee surveys and develop summary reports
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, Agriculture, or a related scientific discipline
  • Candidates with an academic background in food law or regulatory compliance will also be considered

Required Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective problem-solving abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present results and recommendations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred)
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments
  • Ability to stand for a prolonged period of time
  • Flexibility to work varying hours as needed and commitment to 40 hours per week
