Food Labeling & Regulatory Compliance Specialist (R&D)

Location: Cypress, CA

Compensation: $28.85 – $32.50 per hour, plus full benefits and bonus

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm

A day in this role

It’s 9:00 a.m. and you’re reviewing a new plant‑based entrée label, confirming ingredient statements, allergen disclosures, and the Nutrition Facts Panel align with FDA requirements. By noon, you’ve annotated artwork with regulatory edits and synced with Marketing to ensure claims are substantiated. Mid‑afternoon, you’re analyzing shelf‑life data from last week’s trial and summarizing results for the R&D manager. You end the day logging packaging EPR data and preparing a short memo on an FDA guidance update to brief cross‑functional partners.

What you’ll do

• Prepare and review food labels: ingredients, allergens, Nutrition Facts, and claims.
• Verify label artwork for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Research FDA, USDA, and related regulations; translate findings into clear summaries.
• Support compliance for products, labels, and documentation across the portfolio.
• Assist with packaging EPR data collection and reporting.
• Plan and execute bench experiments to support new product development and product maintenance.
• Organize experimental data; communicate results and recommendations to managers.
• Collaborate with PD, Marketing, Sales, QC/QA, and Production teams.
• Conduct shelf‑life studies and sensory evaluations.
• Explore ingredient trends and concepts for plant‑based innovation.
• Contribute to formulation work and analytical testing.

What you bring

• 1–3 years of experience in food labeling or regulatory support.
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of U.S. food regulations (FDA; basic USDA familiarity), nutrition labeling, and allergen rules.
• Detail orientation with strong documentation habits; logical and analytical problem‑solving.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects.
• Understanding of food manufacturing, hygiene, and quality control principles.
• Basic grounding in nutrition, chemistry, microbiology, and statistics.
• Familiarity with lab equipment and analytical testing procedures.
• Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Basic cooking skills for benchtop trials.
• Willingness to travel occasionally (1–2 times per year).
