NATURE OF WORK
This is generalized law enforcement and public safety work in the prevention of crime, protection of life and property, and apprehension of criminal offenders.
An incumbent in this classification of work is responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty involving the protection of life and property. After completion of an initial training period, the employee is responsible for enforcing federal, state and local laws, and performing related police activities. Incumbents are involved in either patrolling an assigned area in a radio-equipped vehicle, or performing administrative, communications, public information and/or complaint duties. Under general supervision of a sergeant or other police supervision, the employee is required to exercise initiative and independent judgment as well as tact, courtesy and self-control in performance of duties. The incumbent is also expected to make decisions calmly and quickly in emergency or hazardous situations. Some positions in this class may include receiving in-service training in preparation for promotion or special assignment. Most positions require the employee to work on rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is reviewed through reports submitted, observation and results obtained.

E.O.T. (Equivalency of Training) after being hired:
The applicant will need to provide the Exemption From Training approval form (CJSTC 76) with the application.
The department is willing to schedule / sponsor a hired applicant for the EOT (Equivalency of Training) Proficiency course after the hire date.
Upon completion, the applicant will be issued an Exemption from Training Proficiency & Demonstration form (CJSTC 76A).
Failure to complete the Proficiency Course will lead to termination form employment.
The department is willing to schedule / sponsor a hired applicant for the State Exam (SOCE) after the hire date.
Failure to pass the State exam will lead to termination from employment.
E.O.T. (Equivalency of Training) Pre-Hire:
Equivalency of Training (EOT) can also be completed by the applicant before applying for the position.
The state currently offers a reimbursement of $1000.00 for EOT expenses covered by the applicant. The reimbursement is applied for by the agency post hire date.
The applicant needs to provide the Exemption From Training form (CJSTC 76) and Exemption from Training Proficiency & Demonstration form (CJSTC 76A) before or during the hiring process.
The applicant needs to provide a Score Sheet for the State Exam (SOCE) displaying a Passing score.

CJBAT Test results
Must have passed the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT). The following applicants are exempt from the CJBAT requirements:
Veterans with an "Honorable" Military discharge (DD214)
Applicants with an Associates Degree or higher
Florida Certified Police Officers are not required to retake test
Physical Agility Test results
Must pass swimming (SWIM) and Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
Tests must be taken at Broward College Institute of Public Safety
PAT results are valid for six (6) months

Based on successful completion of full-time, continuous service with the City, employee shall receive the following:

Holidays:
In lieu of paid day off, employees receive payout of up to six (6) non-designated Holiday Days/48 hours the first six (6) months and up to seven (7) non-designated Holiday Days/56 hours the second six (6) months per year (13 Days/104 hours annually). Employees may bank all or a portion of their hours to Annual Leave Accrual Bank.
Annual Leave:
Annual leave may be taken as earned. Maximum accumulation each fiscal year is 290 hours. At time of resignation or retirement, employee is paid for all annual leave accrued at their current rate of pay. Annual leave is accrued based on continuous, full-time service with the City, as follows:

Annual Leave Cash Out:
Employee can opt to receive a one-time per year cash payment for up to forty (40) hours of annual leave, provided accrued annual leave bank does not fall below eighty (80) hours.
Floating Holidays:
Upon completion of (26) weeks of full-time employment with the City, employee shall be entitled to utilize one (1) floating holiday per fiscal year. Floating holiday shall not carry over to the next fiscal year.
Sick Leave:
Each employee earns (96) hours of sick leave annually with no waiting period for use and unlimited accrual. Upon separation of City employment due to resignation, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employee's current rate of pay at time of resignation. Upon separation of employment due to retirement, employee shall receive payment of all accrued sick leave at a rate of fifty percent (50%) of the employee's current rate of pay at the time of retirement.
Sick Day Bonus Plan (Perfect Attendance):
For every three (3) month period (October 1 - December 31; January 1 - March 31; April 1 - June 30; or July 1 - September 30) in which, no sick is utilized, an employee shall receive ten (10) hours of annual leave credited for each three (3) month period (Up to 40 hours annually.)
Bereavement:
Qualifying City-paid Bereavement Leave as follows: • In State = Up to 3 Days • Out of State = Up to 4 Days - Employees on an eight (8) hour schedule may use up to five (5) consecutive work days.
