This position is open only to Colorado state residents.
Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is a cash funded, self supporting division of the Colorado Department of Corrections. This position may be eliminated at any time if funding is discontinued. The Department maybe able to assist with transferring you to a position that is either comparable or below the classification that you were hired for, but if there is not a vacant position it may result in termination of employment. If the position is eliminated it may require you to relocate to another correctional facility or geographical location based on the need of the CDOC. Also, you must meet minimum qualifications for any vacant positions in order to be considered for a transfer.
This position is a Float Labor Supervisor, Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I), t
hat will assist cost centers to include but not limited to Farm, WHIP, Leather Products, Metal Fabrication, Tag/Tab/Sign, Heavy Equipment and SWIFT
. This position ensures the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates. This position prepares inmates for community re-entry by promoting the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision and Values while adhering to a high level of integrity and commitment.  
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provides supervision, instruction, oversight, mentorship, and training of inmate students of the several facets of any cost center in Ci to include basic techniques and procedures for the application of how to operate heavy equipment tractors, feed trucks, swathers, bailers, manure trucks, and gravel trucks;
- Supervises, trains and guides inmates;
- Selects inmate students for entry through interviewing and assessing aptitude, ability and motivation;
- Develops the Individual Instructions Plan (IIP) for approval with goals and time frames for each inmate student;
- Oversight of operations, schedules and changes; direct daily activities, promote positive performance, ensures compliance with health and safety standards;
- Contributes to profitability and meets established quality standards;
- Maintains adequate inventory and tracking systems; monitors profit/loss potential; calculates material and labor costs on standard/custom products; initiates purchase requisitions; reviews and confirms specifications of raw materials, hardware, and supplies used in the manufacturing process;
- Performs hands-on instructional work and equipment maintenance;
- Motivates, reviews, and evaluates inmate performance;
- Completes and creates documents and reports by gathering information and inputting information into electronic systems; 
- Ensures the safety and security of the public, facility staff, and inmates by evaluating work conditions and instructs staff and inmates in proper safety methods;
- Position may require overnight camping up to multiple weeks at a time as well as certificates such as the S212 or other classes;
- Provides support in all areas of CCi as needed and may be required to work multiple locations, in all areas of the state both inside and outside of the correctional facilities;
- Requires different days and shifts based on cost center and may be day or night;
- Overtime will be required; 
- Performs other job related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Four (4) years of labor/maintenance* employment experience. *Experience must be described in detail on your application to receive credit. Any work experience less than full time will be prorated.*
Building/Equipment Maintenance - includes planning, estimating and performing a variety of "hands on" trades such as carpentry, plumbing, heavy equipment, and machinery/equipment repair on residential, commercial or ag icultural structures.*
*Grounds Maintenance - includes labor, planning, installation and/or maintenance of grounds and a variety of other exterior work such as construction, concrete work. *
OR:
 
A minimum of two (2) years of experience, as described above may be combined with experience in a correctional environment for a total of at least four (4) years.
Correctional Experience
 - must be security related duties where primary responsibilities included detaining, controlling movement and escorting inmates in a prison facility; conducting counts and searches while monitoring inmate assignments and movement throughout the day.
Special Qualification: 
Must have Class B CDL or obtain within 12 months of hire.
Must have Red Card or working towards obtaining one within 12 months of hire
Substitutions: 
Completion of formal education at an accredited, non-correspondence trade/vocational school, college or university that resulted in demonstrated competencies equivalent to those gained through the required experience may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. *You must attach a copy of your transcripts that contain your name, name of the college, type of degree received and date degree was awarded. *
