Fleet Technicians perform highly skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of all types of automotive/fleet and construction equipment within the Fleet Service Division. The work is characterized by the high degree of complexity, independence, and technical discretion and may involve providing leadership and mechanical expertise to other workers. Given the wide range of equipment this position will work on, the initial training period will introduce you to equipment unique to the City of Madison. The work is performed under the general supervision of a foreperson and is reviewed for overall results.

Fleet Technicians also receive a monthly tool allowance, safety shoe allowance, are provided uniforms, and have access to the Fleet Division's on-site fitness room. Fleet Technicians assigned to the second shift receive a $3.00 per hour shift differential for regularly scheduled hours worked from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Normal shifts are Monday through Friday, with hours from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm (second shift) or 7:30 am to 3:30 pm (first shift).
Employees must maintain an overtime acceptance rate of at least 50%.
The current recruitment is to fill one (1) vacant position. This is a second shift position, with the potential to move to first shift. The selected candidate will complete a two-to-three month training period on the first shift at our Nakoosa Trail site before moving to a second shift schedule.
This recruitment will create an eligible list that will be used to fill additional Fleet Technician vacancies that may arise in the next three (3) months.
