Role Overview

Perform maintenance and repairs on school buses and other motor vehicles owned by the Washington County Board of Education, ensuring safe, reliable, and consistent operation.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma/GED.

Possess valid "CDL" driver's license Class B with Passenger, Air Brake and School Bus Endorsement or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

Meet & maintain all requirements to be certified as a School Vehicle Driver per COMAR 13A.06.07.

Possess a valid driver's license with no court ordered restrictions, verified with driving history record.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in automobile and truck maintenance, repair, and diagnostics for both gasoline and diesel vehicles, including possession of the basic tools required to perform assigned tasks.

Ability to use independent judgment related to the methods of repair.

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

ASE Certification in automobile/light truck or school bus.

Completed vocational or trade school training in a related field, such as automobile, truck, and diesel engine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair.

Experience in school bus maintenance, repair, and diagnostics.

Five (5) years of experience as an automobile and/or truck repair technician.

Possess practical knowledge of the function and operation of a variety of diagnostic systems, support programs, and all basic tools.

Experience in automobile and truck collision repair.

Experience in various welding practices

Role Responsibilities

Work independently to perform mechanical repairs and scheduled maintenance on school buses, cars, and trucks.

Perform repairs to fleet's air conditioning systems.

Respond to emergency road calls (accidents, breakdowns).

Respond to off-hour emergency calls as needed (i.e., inclement weather events).

Install, configure, and maintain digital camera systems, cell phones, and GPS systems.

Troubleshoot and repair vehicle computer-controlled systems; brakes (ABS), engines, and transmissions.

Assist in performing Class A and Class B State School Bus Inspections.

Possess the ability to use the fleet maintenance program that produces work orders, controls parts, and maintains vehicle history.

Service the vehicle onboard computer monitoring system, digital camera systems, cell phones, and other technology added to the bus.

Perform the duties of a substitute bus driver when needed.

Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.

Other duties as assigned by Fleet Services Supervisor, Director of Transportation or his/her designee.

Ability to move, raise, lower, and carry objects up to 80 lbs. on an irregular basis.

Will be subjected to loud noises, dusts, fumes, hot and cold outdoor temperatures and related weather conditions.
