Fleet Services Senior Technician Salary $54,100.80 Annually

Description Under general supervision, performs maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and upfitting on Town mechanical and motorized equipment, including police and fire vehicles, construction and landscaping equipment, and other specialized machinery. Completes a wide range of complex, skilled, and semi-skilled automotive, heavy-equipment, and emergency-vehicle repair tasks.

Examples of Duties Performs State of Texas vehicle inspections in compliance with state laws. Completes new vehicle and equipment make-ready/upfit tasks and performs decommissioning activities. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, including housekeeping duties, tool cleaning, and inventory checks. Orders and receives parts and supplies necessary to support fleet repairs and maintenance. Provides customer service to internal departments and external vendors. Inspects, maintains, repairs, and replaces worn or defective vehicle and equipment components. Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) according to Town PM procedures. Conducts repairs on engines, transmissions, drive axles, hydraulic systems, electrical and lighting systems, HVAC systems, and auxiliary systems. Completes documentation and data entry for all repairs in the Fleet Maintenance Information System (FMIS). Tests vehicles and equipment to verify proper performance before returning them to service. Adheres to assigned work schedules and complies with Town personnel policies. Participates in on-call rotation; responds to after-hours and emergency repair requests, including road calls. Informs supervisor of hazards, issues, and ongoing work activities. Reviews work for technical accuracy and compliance with standards. Monitors outsourced repair work for quality, proper billing, and adherence to Town requirements. Checks new vehicles for bid-spec compliance as needed. Assists other technicians with repairs; mentors and provides guidance to less-experienced technicians. Uses repair manuals, detailed wiring diagrams, and parts catalogs to diagnose and resolve issues. Performs other duties as assigned, including special projects.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. A current Texas Class C Driver's License is required, and the driving record must comply with Town policy. Become ASE Master Automotive or Master Truck Certified within two (2) years of hire date. Become Certified State of Texas Vehicle Inspector within six months of hire date. Possession of, or ability to obtain mechanic hand tools of type and quantities sufficient to perform with efficiency all required repair duties.

Physical Abilities

To perform the essential functions of the job, must be able to talk, read, see, walk, and hear. Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities, including exerting up to 100 lbs. of force; lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying heavy supplies multiple times per day. Must be able to crawl, bend, kneel, and climb on and off equipment, and operate vibrating or moving equipment. Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, underground, in confined spaces, and in constantly noisy conditions. Must be able to work in adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather and exposure to mechanical, electrical, fume/odor, dust/mist, chemical, and toxic waste hazards. Desired Qualifications

Industry-related work experience that exceeds the minimum requirements preferred. Additional auto/diesel vocational or technical training not already counted toward minimum qualifications preferred. Current ASE certifications beyond the required minimum preferred. Current Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification preferred. Current Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred. Current Texas State Vehicle Inspector License preferred.

Knowledge/ Skills / Abilities

Knowledge of repair principles and techniques for cars, light/heavy trucks, construction and off-road equipment, and landscaping equipment. Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, air/hydraulic brakes, lighting systems, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and complex electronic control systems. Ability to diagnose, maintain, and repair equipment/vehicles using hand and power tools, including diagnostic scan tools, DVOM, welders, cutting torches, and other specialty tools. Knowledge of fluids, materials, and safety procedures related to vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair, including shop safety and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Proficiency with computers and data entry; ability to maintain shop and repair records and use preventative maintenance checklists. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to prioritize, multitask, work under pressure, and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public. Good hand/foot/eye coordination to safely operate equipment. Ability to work after normal business hours as needed and adapt skills to any machinery or equipment in the Town's fleet.
