The Department
The mission of the General Services Department is to provide quality services that support City departments in a manner which enable them to carry-out their community missions; to provide these services in a cost-effective and efficient manner which best serves the operational needs of City departments and the community. Responsibilities of the General Services Department include: Airport Administration, Building Maintenance, Central Services, Cultural Arts Center Administration, Custodial, Fleet Services, Graffiti Abatement Program and HVAC /Electrical.
The PositionThe Fleet Services Manager plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Fleet Services Division including the maintenance and repair of the City's vehicle and equipment fleet, apparatus, and parts inventory warehouse. This position manages supervisory and technical staff, plans, assigns, and manages the operations of the repair and servicing of the City’s fleet; prioritizes and coordinates with user departments to assess vehicles/equipment repair, maintenance and utilization; determines services to be sublet to outside vendors, and develops, reviews and recommends bids for vendor selection; oversees the work management system for the fleet maintenance and warehouse parts inventory; manages the operation and maintenance of lubricants, CNG and other fuel stations and fleet-related capital improvement projects; recommends, formulates and implements the City's alternative fuel and vehicle standardization programs; oversees the safe working condition of the facility, tools, shop equipment and preventative maintenance program; attends various City Council, Commission, and community and staff meetings; administers safety and training programs, and performs related work as required.

- Strategic Leadership: Provides leadership and direction for the Fleet Services Division, overseeing fleet maintenance operations, establishing goals and performance standards, and implementing policies and programs that support efficient and reliable fleet services.
- Fleet Operations Management: Manages the repair, maintenance, and preventative maintenance programs for the City’s fleet of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel technologies.
- Staff Supervision and Development: Supervises and supports supervisors, mechanics, and support staff by assigning work, evaluating performance, providing training, and fostering a safe, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.
- Fleet Planning and Sustainability: Leads fleet replacement planning, vehicle standardization efforts, and alternative fuel initiatives to support operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability goals.
- Budget, Contracts, and Procurement: Oversees division budgeting and financial performance; develops technical specifications; manages bid processes; and administers contracts with vendors, suppliers, and service providers.
- Customer Service and Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaborates with City departments to prioritize fleet needs, address operational challenges, and ensure responsive and effective fleet support services.
- Safety and Facility Oversight: Ensures safe operations within fleet facilities, including oversight of shop equipment, fueling infrastructure, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Monthly Salary Range
$10,101 (Minimum) - $13,387 (Reference) - $15,396 (Maximum)
Appointments are typically made between the minimum and reference point, depending on qualifications.
