Fleet Mechanic
AT THE
Washington County Road Department
FULL TIME WITH BENEFITS - $26.70 HRLY / 40 HOURS PER WEEK
Washington County is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment that support essential county operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting complex issues, working independently, and making a direct impact in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks.
- Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, and suspension components.
- Utilize computerized diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Perform welding, fabrication, tire repair, and field service work as needed.
- Maintain repair records, order parts, and manage shop inventory.
- Coordinate fleet maintenance schedules and support county departments.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of specialized course work providing technical training in automotive and/or heavy maintenance and repair and computerized diagnostics.
- Four (4) years of experience repairing gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.

- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
We're looking for candidates with experience in:
- Light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicle repair
- Diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- Hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems
- Automotive air conditioning systems
- Welding and fabrication
- Computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Preventive maintenance program management
- Utah Class ''A'' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) not required but preferred
Successful candidates are self-motivated problem solvers who can work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and make sound repair decisions.
Additional Requirements:
- Must obtain a State Safety Inspection Certificate within 90 days of hire
