General Purpose
The Mechanic Assistant is to help provide services to all mechanics when needed, as well as
maintaining all vehicle maintenance schedules. Efficiently communicate and coordinate with
Fleet Management about the purchase of parts as needed for repairs
Supervision Received
Reports to the Fleet Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised
None.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Responsible for performing maintenance repairs such as tune-ups oil change's, check
tires and brakes, replace spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks for all TOPC
vehicle/assets.
• Assists mechanics with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights.
• Test drives vehicles to ensure repairs are completed properly.
• Cleans the shop and returns tools to proper location.
• Maintains inventory for all TOPC vehicle/assets.
• Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
• Thrive with a team and under pressure in challenging environments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of vehicle repair.
• Excellent mechanical skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to use power and hand tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read service and repair manuals.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
• Ability to work well with a team and under pressure in challenging environments.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
• Mechanical background in repair and preventative maintenance on vehicles and large
equipment.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the automotive trade.
• ASE certifications or equivalent.
• Welding qualified preferred but not required.
• Must be able to use computer diagnosis system.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-year minimum experience.
• Must obtain Texas DL within 6 months of hire if not current/expired.
Tools & Equipment Used
Power tools, hand tools, torches, broom, tire mounting machine, wheel balancer and vehicle
hoist.
Special Requirements
Must hold and maintain a valid Texas State Driver's license or obtain one within six months of
hire.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and random screenings while employed.
Physical Demands
• Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
• Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift 50-100 pounds at a time.
