  • Assign and optimize driver workloads to meet service expectations and maximize efficiency.
  • Monitor and manage driver performance using key metrics (e.g., on-time delivery, idle %, utilization), providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and development.
  • Identify training needs and support continuous skill development to improve safety and operational performance.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of driver activity, performance, and communications.
  • Support driver administrative needs, including payroll, and ensure accuracy of pay-related inputs.

  • Ensure drivers are properly set up in operational systems and equipped with necessary assets (e.g., tractors, trailers).
  • Oversee maintenance scheduling, including preventive maintenance, shutdowns, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with customers to ensure expectations are met, monitoring appointments and projected times of arrival (PTAs), and providing verbal dispatch for time-sensitive freight.
  • Communicate load-specific requirements (e.g., Hazmat, high-value, specialized freight) to ensure driver readiness and compliance.
  • Reinforce procedures related to claims, accidents, theft, and equipment handling to minimize risk and loss.
  • Maintain awareness of driver well-being and proactively address factors that may impact safety, service, or productivity.
  • Promote and reinforce safety and compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all regulatory and company standards.

Load Planning

  • Develop and execute load plans that balance customer requirements, driver needs, and network efficiency while maximizing asset utilization.
  • Proactively communicate with customers and drivers to address service challenges and manage expectations.
  • Plan and route high-value loads through approved safe havens to ensure security and risk mitigation.
  • Analyze operational data and generate reports (e.g., load weight, miles, backhaul revenue) to improve equipment utilization and profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, including hours-of-service requirements, by monitoring driver availability and maintaining accurate logs of drive time and capacity.

Customer Service

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned accounts, serving as a trusted point of contact.
  • Proactively identify at-risk shipments and drive timely resolution to ensure service commitments are met.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the operational network to identify opportunities for growth, improve efficiency, and increase load volume.
  • Leverage network balance and pricing tools to conduct daily freight solicitation with existing customers and reduce capacity imbalances.
  • Negotiate truckload (TL) and intermodal rates with external carriers as needed; evaluate and select carriers, transportation modes, and routes to ensure cost-effective, high-quality service.
  • Monitor dedicated and transactional freight performance, addressing service issues, proof of delivery, billing discrepancies, and special requirements.
